8-and-a-half-Inch Perfect Firmness Reviews

Like the other Latexpedic matresses, the 8½" Perfect Firmness mattress is two-sided—it can be flipped for durablility and balancing comfort and support. Unlike them, it is not just a latex mattress, but a hybrid latex-innerspring mattress. Besides latex comfort layers, the 8½" Perfect Firmness also features the natural fibers cotton and wool, essentially making this a basically natural mattress bolstered with steel.

The core of the 8½" Perfect Firmness is an array of individually wrapped pocket coils. By the way, Latexpedic has provided several close-up photos of these coils. The pocket coils provide firm, yet conforming, support. Only 3½" high, these coils are not much higher than microcoils.

It is almost inconceivable that a pocket coil innerspring would not have some form of perimeter support. The only thing holding the coils together is the fabric pockets, which are attached to each other. I have not found mention of perimeter support by Latexpedic, but will presume some kind of latex foam encasement or fibrous banding.

A customer can choose among four overall firmness levels for this mattress. These are the same firmnesses available for the 8½" Perfect Firmness as for the other Latexpedic models: Soft (Plush), Regular Firm, Extra Firm or Ultra Firm. This is largely determined by the comfort layers, which Latexpedic calls Pressure Relief Layers. These consist of Talatech, a variety of Talalay latex made by Latex International (also called Talalay Global).

Also like the other Latexpedic models, the buyer of the 8½" Perfect Firmness mattress has a choice of latex formulations. The latex choices are classic, natural or organic. Classic latex is a blend of synthetic and natural latex. Articles on Latexpedic explain not only the differences among the three formulations, but the advantages of each. Blended latex combines the comfort of natural latex with the durability of synthetic latex. Natural latex is 100% made from the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). Organic latex is natural latex which meets certain criteria for being organic.

The top and bottom panels of the Latexpedic 8½" Perfect Firmness latex-innerspring hybrid mattress are quilted natural cotton and wool. The compressed wool serves as a flame retardant, negating the need for chemicals. This adds half an inch to each side of the mattress.

Latexpedic also makes and sells the Perfect Firmness Topper for use with the 8½" Perfect Firmness mattress. This topper has a core of Talalay latex and a quilted cotton-wool topper on one side. It also has straps for keeping the topper in place. The Perfect Firmness Topper is available in 8 firmnesses, from softest (Ultra Plush) to firmest (Ultra Firm). The ILDs range from 14 to 44.
