The 9" High Profile (HP) is the middle model of latex mattresses made by Latexpedic, a subsidiary of Electropedic Beds. This is a 3-layer, two-sided mattress with a 6" support core and two 1" comfort layers. Latexpedic says this is their "best selling" model.
All the latex in the HP is Talalay latex made by Latex International. This latex foam is vertically ventilated for breathability. As to the composition of the foam, the customer has three choices. Classic latex is a blend of natural and synthetic latex. Natural latex is made 100% from sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). Organic latex is natural latex made of sap meeting specified criteria as to how the trees are grown, and how the sap is tapped and handled.
The latex in the 6" support core is firmer than that in the 1" comfort layers. The actual firmness level of these layers depends on the overall firmess level selected by the customer: Soft (Plush), Regular Firm, Extra Firm or Ultra Firm. With classic latex, the ILD of the core ranges from 44 (Ultra Firm) to 24 (Soft), and that of the comfort layers from 28 to 19. With natural and organic latex, the foam is rated on a scale from N5 to N1. The comfort layers are laminated to the core. The firmness (ILD) of the core is tested in several places before the mattress is asembled.
Both top and bottom of the Latexpedic 9" High Profile mattress have a cover of quilted bamboo and cotton. The bamboo is presumably natural bamboo fibers extracted from the bamboo stalks (a process somewhat like making linen from flax), since FTC regulations require bamboo rayon to be identified as rayon. This quilting adds a half inch to each side to complete the 9" height. The border of the mattress is finished in suede.
