Lucid 10 inch Memory Foam Mattress

The Lucid 10 inch Memory Foam Mattress is sold by LinenSpa, a subsidiary of Malouf Marketing, Inc. It is sold online, not only on the LinenSpa website, but also on Amazon. Like all LinenSpa mattresses, it is shipped compressed and rolled up in a box, but quickly expands to its full dimensions when unpacked.

According to LinenSpa, the Lucid 10" Memory Foam Mattress "has a medium-firm feel." This is easy to see comparing it to 6" and 8" firm mattresses with the same materials. With foam, for the same material deeper means softer. At the same time, a deeper support core is firmer, balancing the thicker memory foam.

LinenSpa boasts of the open-cell stucture of their visco-elastic memory foam. True enough, the open-cell formation makes memory foam more durable and supportive on one hand and cooler on the other. This is the primary reason that it is now used by most mattress manufacturers. If it resists body impressions as well as manufacturers say it does, then that is a definite advantage.

Another claim by LinenSpa for the memory foam in their Lucid 10" Memory Foam Mattress is that it is anti-microbial, anti-fungal, hypoallergenic, and dust-mite resistant. This foam is also certified by CertiPur-US. They also extend the anti-microbial claim to the velour cover fabric.

This 10" model has a 2½" comfort layer of memory foam. This material responds to the sleeper's weight and heat to conform itself to body contours. This is to relieve pressure points by evenly distributing the body's weight.

Support for the Lucid 10" Memory Foam Mattress by LinenSpa is in the 7½" polyurethane foam base core. No special claims are made by LinenSpa for the formulation of this polyurethane. Some manufacturers cite the use of plant-based ingredients, such as soy oil, in their PU foam.

The soft cotton velour cover is zippered for easy removal for washing. Velour is breathable, helping with cooling. As mentioned above, it is also anti-microbial.

The way the LinenSpa Lucid 10" Memory Foam Mattress is packaged and shipped makes it easy and affordable to ship and set up. Being a foam mattress, this model needs consistent support all the way across the bottom. The High Rise Bed Frame by Structures (a Malouf brand) is designed to provide this support with its "heavy-duty wire latticework."

The Lucid 10" Memory Foam Mattress by LinenSpa has a 30-day money back guarantee and a 25-year warranty (it had previously been 20).

We tried numerous times to contact Lucid about this problem, and for months received no response. Since Lucid doesn't list a phone number on their site (intentionally?), we had to use their e-mail form. For over a month, all we got was a roaring silence. When Lucid finally responded, they flat-out refused to replace...by redefining their warranty on the fly to exclude our specific situation. We sent them a dozen photos, as requested, that clearly demonstrated the mattress was retaining an impression of more than 2" with nobody on it, and was not acting like "memory" foam at all. They informed us the mattress had to retain that impression for a full two hours after it was used. Really??? By my calculations, it would take two people, each weighing in at approximately 900 lbs., sleeping on the bed for three days and nights straight, to sufficiently damage the mattress to qualify it for warranty replacement under their criterion! At that point, we stopped expecting Lucid to do the right thing. Clearly they have no interest in standing behind what they sell, so we're now deciding whether to pursue litigation or just chalk the whole thing up to experience and buy another bed. Reading through numerous reviews of this product, I noticed that virtually all were written during the first month or so after purchase. Had we done that, our review would also be a glowing endorsement, but in the event, what we ended up with is a $350 white elephant. Don't make the mistake we made! The Lucid product isn’t comfortable, dependable or durable, and is hugely overpriced, considering it only lasted a year. The Lucid company showed no inclination to honor their warranty, choosing to throw away any hope of our future business, rather than replace a mattress that probably cost them $100 to manufacture. All-in-all, a totally disappointing purchase from a totally user-unfriendly company.

Mattress Rating: 1 starsMattress Comfort: down

We purchased this mattress in January of this year and were very excited when it first arrived. It was very firm and extremely comfortable, exactly what we had hoped for. Unfortunately, within six months, the memory foam began to soften noticeably.

Mattress Durability: down

It was easy to determine this, because the center of the bed, where neither of us sleep, was the only part of the mattress as firm today as it was the day we bought it.

Mattress Support: down

By August it was giving us both terrible backaches every day.

Lasted less than a year on a 25-year warranty.
