Magnifico Dual 12

The Magnifico Dual 12 memory foam mattress by Italian bedding manufacturer Magniflex is the 2014 updated version of the Dualcomfort Magnifico. According to bedding industry news stories, the redesign was a response to requests by retailers for a softer mattress with the same level of orthopedic support.

A signature feature of the Magnifico Dual 12, found in other Magniflex mattresses, is the Dual Core. This is a multi-layer support core. One side is plusher, the other firmer. The user can change the comfort level of the mattress by unzipping the cover and flipping the Dual Core. Two-person sized mattresses have a Dual Core for each side, so each partner of a couple can choose his or her own comfort level.

The Dual Core has two back-to-back 3" layers of support foam, Elioform and Eliosoft. The microcellular stucture of this support foam has high density. Eliosoft is a plusher version of the Elioform. Which side is up determines the firmness level at the sleeping surface.

The upgrade/redesign of the Dualcomfort Magnifico includes additional layers of Memoform foam to both sides of the Dual Core. Memoform is Magniflex's own open-cell memory foam, designed to conform to the sleeper's body to yield a "weightless" feeling while reducing pressure point pain. It is also designed to contribute to proper spinal posture for better back health. According to Magniflex, Memoform more quickly adapts to a sleeper's changes in position than regular memory foam.

Between the quilted cover of the Magnifico Dual 12 and the Dual Core is a ½" layer of super soft fiber.

The cover fabric of the Magnifico Dual 12 is viscose, better known in America as rayon. This is fiber made of cellulose extracted from woody fibers. Rayon tends to have a silky texture, leading to one of its old nicknames, "wood silk." Viscose is not to be confused to natural wood fibers drawn from tree wood or bamboo, which are also used by Magniflex in some of its products. On the Magnifico Dual 12 it is quilted with 1" of Magniform. The cover itself is removable and washable.

The viscose fabric is combined with Outlast fabric. Outlast is a temperature regulating material developed by NASA for the space program. The key to this function is Phase Change Materials (PCMs) embedded in the fibers. PCMs change their physical state (liquid/solid) to keep temperatures within a designated range. They do this by absorbing heat at the upper end of the range when they liquify, and releasing heat at the lower end when they solidify.

Woven into the viscose cover fabric are silver threads. Silver reduces static by not letting electrical charges build up. It also inhibits bacterial growth, another benefit.

The Magnifico Dual 12 is covered by Magniflex's 20-year manufacturers warranty. It is available in North America through several retailers.
