Naturepedic Baby
Naturepedic Baby is the mattress collection for infants and toddlers produced by Naturepedic. The other collections are Naturepedic Kids and Naturepedic You. Crib mattresses were the first products of Naturepedic, which focuses on bedding which is non-toxic and hypoallergenic.

The Naturepedic Baby collection consists of four series: Lightweight, Classic, Ultra and Quilted & 2in1. Each of the mattresses in this collection measures 27.5" x 52" x 6", fitting snugly within cribs and comfortably in toddler beds. All except the Lightweight use coil springs for support. Lightweight uses a polyethylene Wavesupport (see below).

Naturepedic claims that their crib mattresses have "Fire Protection Done Right." This means that they meet the federal and and state standards for flammability without using chemical fie retardants. How do they do this? By using the organic cotton fibers and PLA fiber, and by avoiding the highly flammable polyurethane.

The Naturepedic website quotes Dr. -Sigmund C. Norr: “I recommend using a non-toxic and more natural mattress for all infants and toddlers, and I can recommend Naturepedic as an excellent product.”

The padding in the Naturepedic Baby mattresses is organic cotton fiber filling, and the covers use certified organic cotton fabric. Some of the mattresses have waterproof surfaces and waterproof seams, an important consideration for infants and toddlers. This is achieved by organic waterproof fabric, which has a waterproof surface of 100% food-grade polyethylene. Not only waterproof, this is easy-to-clean and stain-resistant. Additionally, the waterproof cotton fabric is a barrier to bed bugs and dust mites.

Naturepedic touts its Lightweight mattress as a "no-compromise™ organic cotton lightweight baby crib & toddler mattress" which will make crib changing easy. It is lighter because instead of steel springs, the support layer is Wavesupport™, a corrugated sheet of food-grade polyethylene. The Lightweight is waterproof, even to the heat-sealed seams, which both make it more durable and totally waterproof.

The Classic, at 22 lbs., is heavier than the Lightweight. It has an innerspring core with 150 coils. The Classic is waterproof. The surface is firm and flat, which conforms to recommendations by consumer agencies and pediatric associations.

The Ultra series has what Naturepedic calls "Premium fabric and support." It is firmer, and therefore more suitable for toddlers, with a coil count of 252. The Ultra is covered with waterproof organic cotton and has sealed seams, making it dust mite and bedbug resistant as well as waterproof. Since the fabric is heavier than in the previous models, it also should be more durable.

The next series actually has two sub-series, Quilted Deluxe and 2in1 Ultra. They share a 252 coil count innerspring support layer. The Quilted Deluxe is not waterproof. It can be used with a mattress protector for babies, but it is also suitable for potty-trained toddlers. It is quilted all the way around and can be turned over. It is more comfortable because of the softer surface and the mattress's breathablility.

The 2in1 Ultra has one side waterproof and the other side quilted: one side for infants and the other for toddlers. The other features it shares with the Quilted Deluxe,

Mattresses in the Naturepedic Baby collection are sold by many retailers, making them widely available. They carry a limited Lifetime Warranty.
