Naturepedic Kids
Naturepedic makes it easy to shop for mattresses for the family. Right on their home page, they have big tabs labelled
Naturepedic Baby,
Naturepedic Kids and
Naturepedic You. That's understandable for a company which began by making non-toxic bedding for children and infants. Founder Barry Cik, an environmental engineer, is concerned about the presence of allergens and toxic chemicals in mattresses, pillows, sheets and other bedding products.
Naturepedic Kids mattresses are designed for children and youth, with sizes ranging from twin to queen, depending on model. There are three models:
2-in-1 Ultra,
1-Sided Quilted Deluxe, and
2-Sided Quilted Deluxe. All are innerspring mattresses, employing 14.5 gauge steel coils with a coil count of 360 in twin size and 528 in full, for a comfort support level of Medium-Firm.
All
Naturepedic Kids mattresses feature organic cotton filling in the comfort layer. According to the company, "Naturepedic uses only U.S. grown and certified organic cotton as filling for its mattresses and buys directly from USDA certified sources. This increases purity, organic reliability and support for U.S. farmers."
No
Naturepedic Kids mattresses contain latex or wool, thus avoiding problems for any children or youth who may be allergic to these materials. They are certified organic, and are also Greenguard certified as environmentally responsible.
The
Naturepedic Kids 2-in-1 ultra is two-sided. The top and sides are waterproof for the protection needed with bed-wetters. The other side is quilted with organic cotton fabric for a more comfortable surface. However, this side is not waterproof, so if this side is used, a mattress rpotector is recommended.
Naturepedic labels the
Quilted Deluxe mattresses as having "Comfort and Elegance." The two models differ in three ways: (1) being one-sided or two-sided, (2) The two-sided costs more, and (3) the two-sided mattress is available in queen size.
The sleeping surfaces of the
Naturepedic Kids Quilted Deluxe models are quilted with organic cotton fabric and batting. This is to yield "a more mature mattress feel," appealing to older children.
Relative Advantages - The 1-Sided model is more affordable, but not flippable. The 2-Sided is flippable, which means the mattress lasts longer. Additionally, the extra padding on the bottom makes it more comfortable overall, allowing the springs to give just a little more where needed. The bonus of the 2-Sided is being available in the queen size, an important consideration where larger youth are concerned.
A coordinating foundation is available for the
Naturepedic Kids mattresses. These models for children and youth carry a 20-year limited warranty.
Naturepedic Kids mattresses are available across the country at many retailers, including several online. Among these are well-known names such as Toys-R-Us, Jordans, Sears (online), and Amazon.
