Naturepedic makes organic mattresses not only for home use, but also for healthcare facilities, including pediatric beds for hospitals. This is only natural, since Naturepedic began with a search for infant mattresses without harmful substances. In addition to harmful materials avoided in home mattresses, Pediatric Beds also do without polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Two of the pediatric care mattresses furnished by Naturepedic are the Pediatric Pad and Crib Mattresses. It is these and other healthcare bedding that earned Naturepedic an award in 2015 for sustainability: Practice Greenhealth Champion for Change.
According to the Naturepedic page, the Pediatric Pad is "The only GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic pediatric pad on the market." It has none of the following substances: polyurethane foam, vinyl, phthalates, DEHP, perfluorinated compounds, and chemical flame retardants. It also omits latex, since its proteins can trigger allergies, even when the cured latex has been thoroughly washed. In additon to latex, wool is also left out. One key ingredient of the Pediatric Pad and Crib Mattresses is organic cotton.
The Naturepedic Pediatric Pad has a waterproof cover, a prime requirement for this category of beds that have to be constantly cleaned. Waterproofing is achieved through food-grade polyethylene, a material certified as safe for food packaging. This pad meets the UL/GreenGuard Gold Standard.
Naturepedic also provides Crib Mattresses to healthcare institutions. Like the Pediatric Pads, they have a non-hazardous waterproof covering. Whereas the Pediatric Pads are intended for newborn and seriously ill or injured infants, the Crib Mattresses are for normal care of babies up to toddlerhood.
Naturepedic's pediatric care products are used in more than one hundred hospitals and clinics. These organizations "can purchase Naturepedic pediatric pads and crib mattresses through Premier Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), or Naturepedic may be contacted directly for more information."
