The 8½" Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress is the third lowest model of memory foam mattresses by Nature's Sleep, ½" higher than the 8" St. Barts Memory Foam Mattress and 4" higher than the 4½" Sofa Bed Sleeper Mattress. The composition of this mattress is similar to the Fiji Gel Memory Foam Mattress, with the notable differences being the heights of the foam core and gel memory foam layer and the addition of a layer of Next Generation memory foam atop the gel memory foam.
The cover of the Nature's Sleep Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress is a 310-gram weight blend of rayon (viscose) and polyester. It is quilted in a diamond pattern (see phot below) with 1/4" of Super Soft Foam. The side panels (a.k.a. borders) are microsuede. Zippered, the cover can be removed and cleaned. It also has a non-skid bottom to keep the mattress and the sheets in place.
The comfort layers exhibit what Nature's Sleep calls its Superior Gel Composite Technology, which uses the company's Next Generation memory foam and Superior Gel Technology. The goal of this configuration is to promote nights of undisturbed quality sleep.
The top layer of the Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress is 7/8" of Next Generation memory foam. This memory foam has extra-wide open cells for airflow to cool the top of this memory foam mattress. According to Nature's Sleep, this layer is in the quilted top. Memory foam is used for its contouring conformability.
The lower comfort layer is 2" of Superior Gel Technology, a proprietary formulation of aerated gel-infused memory foam. As explained in previous reviews, the gel is described as "spheres" introduced into the foam material before it is expanded and cured. This seems to imply that the spheres are larger than the gel beads used by most foam manufacturers. Gel enhances support and conducts heat away from the sleeping surface. The foam itself is an extra-open-cell configuration to allow greater airflow for cooling and freshness.
The high-density polyurethane foam support core of the Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress is 5⅜" high. Supplying most of the support for the mattress, the support core works together with the comfort layers and the quilted cover for a medium-plush overall feel. All foams in the Belize have CertiPUR-US approval.
The Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress has only a 5-year warranty from Nature's Sleep. It is designed in the United States and manufactured in China. Recommended foundations are platforms and adjustable beds.
