The Diamond Gel Memory Foam Mattress by Nature's Sleep is listed by some retailers as the Madison Avenue Gel Memory Foam Mattress. It has a Medium comfort feel. This 11" high memory foam mattress is one of nine Natures' Sleep models featuring gel-infused memory foam (one of these is a hybrid mattress), ranging in hieght from the 8½" Belize GMF to the 13" Pillow-Top GMF.
The gel memory foam comfort layer in the Diamond Gel Memory Foam Mattress is 3" high. According to Nature's Sleep, the Diamond "has a unique formulation that delivers you a great feel, superior comfort and heat dissipation unlike any other Gel Memory foam mattress." This formulation is shared by the other gel memory foam mattresses of Nature's Sleep, so this must be unique to the company. Instead of beads of gel, Nature's Sleep uses "spheres," which seems to indicate that these gel particles are larger, more regular in shape, or both, than those in most other gel infusions. The company calls this combination of memory foam and gel Superior Gel Technology.
The advantages of gel in memory foam are twofold. Gel adds its own support properties to those of the memory foam, making it more supportive, more like a liquid (without the chance of spillage). Gel also has a cooling effect. Heat that it absorbs from the sleeping surface is transferred to other gel spheres until it is transferred out to the room air.
The key benefits of memory foam are pressure relief, spinal alignment, and motion isolation. Memory foam conforms to the contours of a sleeper's body. This makes the support even for the whole body, taking pressure off the shoulders and hips and supporting the middle and lower back.
The 310-gram weight embroidered cover of the Diamond Gel Memory Foam Mattress is a blend of cotton and polyester. This antimicobial and allergen-resistant ticking has an anti-skid bottom, which keeps the sheet in place and keeps the mattress from scooting around. It is zippered for easy removal and drycleaning. The cover is quilted to 1" of Nature's Sleep Next Generation memory foam.
The 7" support core is made of high density foam, probably polyurethane. This base foam layer supports the entire mattress to prevent that "sinking feeling" some people get lying on memory foam. It is also more yielding than a hard floor just uner 3" of memory foam would be. Between the support core and the comfort layer is a protective scrim (dividing sheet).
Memory foam mattresses need a sure foundation, such as a platform or an adjustable bed. Nature's Sleep sells the KD Foundation (a platform with woven wood slats) and three adjustable beds. Also compatible is a European wood slat base. Traditional box springs are not suitable for this type of bed. However, since "box spring" has become synonymous with "foundation" among consumers, it is the term many retailers use for the platform foundations they sell.
Sleep trial periods for the Diamond Gel Memory Foam Mattress depend on the retailers. Nature's Sleep does have a 20-year limited warranty on this mattress. It is available through retailers as wel as through the Nature's Sleep website.
