The Fiji Gel Memory Foam Mattress by Nature's Sleep is listed on Groupon as the 10.5" Gel Memory Foam Mattress. This medium-plush memory foam mattress features a polyurethane foam support core, gel memory foam and super soft quilting foam.
The 310-gram embroidered rayon-polyester cover of the Fiji has a non-skid bottom. It is zippered so it can be removed for spot cleaning. This cover is quilted to ½" of super-soft quilting foam, According to Nature's Sleep, this is "quilted in a multiple repeated box pattern."
The 7" high support core of the Fiji Gel Memory Foam Mattress is high density polyurethane foam. Besides support, this core also offers durability for the mattress while, according to the manufacturer, yielding comfort to the sleepers. The support core also provides edge support for the sleeping surface.
The signature feature of the Fiji is the 3" comfort core of gel-infused memory foam. The role of the memory foam is to distribute support along the whole body so that larger parts don't bear a disproportionate load, and the in-between places get needed support. This is to prevent pressure points and keep the spine in line. Spheres of gel are distributed within the foam mixture before it is expanded and cured. These gel spheres are claimed to be more effective at removing heat than the beads other manufacturers use. The memory foam has the approval of CertiPUR-US as safe (free from harmful substances).
As with all memory foam mattresses, the best foundations for the Fiji Gel Memory Foam Mattress are those with firm, flat support. Nature's Sleep sells an upholstered wood foundation which has a wood frame with slats woven on the top, essentially a platform. Adjustable beds are also suitable, and Nature's Sleep sells three of these: Ultimate Power Foundation, Luxury Power Foundation, and Contour Power Foundation. Also compatible are European wood slats. Traditional box springs are generally not approved for use with memory foam mattresses. However, many retailers call their platform foundations "box springs" because of the traditional use of this term (like calling a modern refrigerator an "ice box").
Fiji Gel Memory Foam Mattresses carry a 20-year limited warranty from Nature's Sleep. They are sold directly to customers on the Nature's Sleep website, but are also available through several retailers, somtimes under different model names, and at prices lower than on the manufacturer's site. This price difference could be for the purpose of not undercutting the company's retailers.
