At 8" high, the St. Barts Memory Foam Mattress is the second lowest model of Nature's Sleep memory foam mattresses, falling between the 8½" Belize Gel Memory Foam Mattress and the 4½" Sofa Bed Sleeper Mattress. Like several other Nature's Sleep mattresses, it features the company's Advanced Visco Technology Memory Foam. The overall comfort feel is medium-firm ("luxury medium"). According to Nature's Sleep, it is an ideal mattress for persons with conditions contributing to sleeplessness.
The zippered, removable, washable cover of the St. Barts Memory Foam Mattress is an 80% cotton blend velour. It is embossed, anti-bacterial and allergen resistant.
The key ingredient of the St. Barts is the 3" high memory foam comfort layer. This is Next Generation Memory Foam, the Advanced Visco Technology product by Nature's Sleep. The primary role of memory foam is to relieve pressure, the reason it was first developed for use by astronauts at launch. It does this by conforming to the weight and shape of a sleeper's body. This contouring takes pressure off larger body parts by also supporting the lesser parts between. Besides relieving presure, it also helps the spine to maintain good posture.
The 5" polyurethane support core is moderately dense, making the St. Barts Memory Foam Mattress not as firm as most 8" mattresses. Both this foam and the memory foam are certified by CertiPUR-US as free from harmful substances, including volatile organic compounds.
The recommended foundations for the St. Barts are platforms and adjustable beds. Also acceptable are European wood slats. Box springs (real ones with real springs) are not recommended for memory foam mattresses such as this.
