Nature's Sleep St. Lucia Memory Foam Mattress

The St. Lucia Memory Foam Mattress is one of five 12" high memory foam mattresses produced and sold by Nature's Sleep. The other four are Cayman Gel Memory Foam Mattress, St. Cloud Memory Foam Mattress, Glacier Gel Memory Foam Mattress, and Sapphire Gel Memory Foam Mattress. The plush St. Lucia is in Series II. It features Advanced Visco Technology (AVT) Memory Foam by Nature's Sleep, having three kinds of foam in its layers. A eurotop mattress, this model also features decorative cording and contrasting designer colors.

The top 3" of the St. Lucia Memory Foam Mattress is a euro top with top and lower edges in decorative cording. The velour cover is an embossed 80% cotton blend which is removable and washable. It is also resistant to allergens and has a non-skid bottom.

The foam in the euro top is Next Generation memory foam by Nature's Sleep. This AVT material is designed for pressure relief by even distribution of support under the entire body. This takes pressure off the more prominent body parts (such as shoulders, hips and knees) and supports the in-between parts (such as the lumbar). Memory foam also isolates motion so that movement on one side of the bed does not disturb a sleeping partner on the other side. This is a contributor to having a good night's sleep.

The 2" layer of the St. Lucia mattress is called "pressure relieving foam." All I can gather from this description is that it is not memory foam, but does help relieve pressure.

The bottom layer of the St. Lucia Memory Foam Mattress is the 7" high support core. This high density polyurethane slab undergirds the whole mattress to prevent bottoming out–that "sinking feeling"–while providing support with more give than the floor. The core also supplies edge support to the sleeping surface, to make the entire surface usable and to prevent rolling-off due to edge sagging.

Since the St. Lucia is a memory foam mattress, it requires full support across the bottom. Qualifying foundations include platforms, wood-slatted frames (if the slats are close enough together) and adjustable beds. Nature's Sleep does sell a wood base, the KD Foundation, and three adjustable beds: Ultimate Power Foundation, Luxury Power Foundation, and Contour Power Foundation. Traditional box springs (with metal springs inside) are generally not recommended for foam beds.
