According to Northwest Bedding, several chiropractors in the Spokane, Washington, area aided the company in designing the series of mattresses in the Chiropractor Collection. Two objectives of this process were firm spinal support and a range of firmnesses in the sleeping surfaces. The resultant array of innerspring mattresses consists of four models, prosaically labeled 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000.
Each mattress in the Chiropractor Collection has a support core of pocket coils encased in fabric. These coils are zoned to provide more support to certain areas of the body. According to one source, zoning is achieved by using two coil gauges (13½ ga. and 14½ ga.) in the coil array.
Pocket Coils ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ BioFlex
The whole coil unit is encased in foam. This is BioFlex, a high density foam that is very firm. First, the coils are not tied to each other, providing pressure relief to hips and shoulders while supporting the spine. The BioFlex foam encasement holds them in place, conserving their configuration for consistent support. Second, foam encasement serves as edge support for the sleeping surface. A third advantage is reduced noise. Foam encasement quiets the coils as they work.
Each Chiropractor Collection mattress has additional BioFlex above the support unit. To this is added CushionFlex, a plant-based foam with a convoluted surface. The "eggcrate" texture of CushionFlex does two things. It allows air to pass through the interior of the mattress to control temperature. Also, each projection of the surface has an independent response to add to the pressure relief of the pocket coils.
CushionFlex ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Quilted Cover
All Chiropractor models are covered by a stretch knit fabric, which conforms to the layers below as they conform to the sleeper's body. This cover is quilted to layers of CushionFlex and fire retardant fibers.
The simplest and most affordable model is Chiropractor 1000. It merely has what is described above. Chiropractor 2000 is similar to the Chiropractor 1000. Where they first differ is the added foams above the support core. In the 1000 they are firm, while those in the 2000 are medium firm, giving a choice of surface firmness for the same price. These models also differ in the kind of quilting. The 2000 is tack quilted, but the 1000 has continuous quilting.
The Chiropractor 3000 and Chiropractor 4000 add Talalay latex layer to the cushioning. The descriptions being essentially the same, the difference in price seems to be in the amount of cushioning foam, with the resulting difference in surface firmness.
Chiropractor Collection mattresses are found in Northwest Bedding showrooms in the Spokane area. They are also available through several retailers in the Pacific Northwest: Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
