Being raised in Washington State with family along the Columbia River, the names of mattresses in the Columbia Collection bring back memories. Each model is named after a place along this international river in the Pacific Northwest. Arising in eastern British Columbia, it winds through Eastern Washington, then forms the border between Washington and Oregon as it crosses the Cascade Mountains through the Columbia Gorge and flows onto the Pacific Ocean.
The Columbia Collection of innerspring mattresses by Northwest Bedding features support cores of pocket coils. The coil units are topped with foam comfort layers. These mattresses have quilted stretch knit covers.
There are six models in the Columbia Collection. These can be conveniently gouped into two series of three models each: Latex and Kootenay. Pend O'Reille Latex Eurotop, Priest Lake Latex Firm, and Roosevelt Latex Plush each have a layer of Talaly latex just under the cover. The pocket coils in the Kootenay Pillowtop, Kootenay Firm, and Kootenay Plush are in seven zones.
Pend O'Reille and Kootenay Pillowtop are the two models with the additional top section. The above photos show the distinction between a eurotop (left) and a pillowtop (right). Note how they are attached to the main body of the mattress. Northwest Bedding's soft plant-based comfort foam CushionFlex is in the eurotop and the pillowtop. The other four models are tight top mattresses.
The description of the collection as a whole cites the "multi-gauge, zoned configuration or a foam encased construction" of the pocket coil innerspring units. In the latex models, the pocket coils are encased with very firm foam. No name is given to the foam in the Columbia Collection model descriptions, but the accounts seem to indicate BioFlex, which also serves as the support core in several mattresses in other collections. This foam is around the perimeters of the coil units and on the bottom. The foam on top of the innersprings is soft CushionFlex.
The pocket coils in the Kootenay models are in seven zones, differentiated by the gauge of the spring wire. These zones correspond to areas of the body for extra support where needed. As in the latex models, the coils are topped with CushionFlex.
The fiber in the stretch knit cover fabric is not named. It is tack quilted to CushionFlex, more in some models, less in others. The quilting also includes fire resistant fibers to meet federal flammability standards.
Columbia Collection mattresses are covered by Northwest Bedding with a 10-year warranty. They are available in Northwest Bedding's Spokane showrooms and retailers throughout the Pacific Northwest.
