Cool Comfort is a long-standing collection of mattresses by Northwest Bedding (NWB). Eight models are currently listed by NWB on its site: Cool Max Gelous, Repose Hybrid Gel, Tranquil Hybrid Gel, Riverview Hybrid Latex, Riverview Latex, Carousel Hybrid Latex, Carousel Latex, and Manito Latex. The first three models feature Northwest Bedding's G-Flex gel-infused memory foam. The other five feature Talalay latex (three of them–Carousel Hybrid, Carousel, and Manito–add Celsion latex).
Four of the models (Repose Hybrid Gel, Tranquil Hybrid Gel, Riverview Hybrid Latex, and Carousel Hybrid Latex) in the Cool Comfort Collection are hybrid mattresses, combining the features of a memory foam mattress or latex mattress with those of an innerspring mattress. Two of these (Repose and Tranquil) feature gel memory foam, and the other two feature latex. In each of these, the innerspring is composed of pocket coils and is encased in Northwest Bedding's BioFlex support foam. The non-hybrid mattresses have a BioFlex support core.
Northwest Bedding insists that the gel infused into their memory foam is "not chunk gel." The swirls in the photo of the gel foam seem to indicate an infusion of liquid gel rather than the more common gel beads. The handprint in the second photo demonstrates that, though gel-infused, this material still retains the properties of memory foam. The role of the gel in the G-Flex is cooling. Gel is also added to foam to make it more supportive.
Talalay latex, which is the primary comfort layer component in five Cool Comfort Collection models, provides pressure relief and motion isolation, but is resilient (like rubber) rather than cradling (like memory foam). The Celsion latex, which is the top layer in Carousel Hybrid Latex, Carousel Latex, and Manito Latex, is infused with phase change materials, which absorb or release heat by changing their physical state to keep the temperature within a designated range.
The stretch knit cover fabrics of Cool Comfort Collection mattresses are unquilted. Their sewing is in a waterfall pattern. The intent of this is to allow the top panel to conform to the sleeper's body along with the top comfort layer.
The mattresses in the Northwest Bedding Cool Comfort Colection work best on a flat, solid surface, such as is found on a platform bed. They are also compatible with adjustable beds.
The Cool Comfort Collection warranties are for 10 years non-prorated. They are available in Northwest Bedding showrooms in the Spokane area and at retailers across the Pacific Northwest.
