Optimum Gel Latex Collection

Sealy added the Gel Latex mattress collection to its Optimum specialty sleep products brand in July 2013.

Like all Optimum mattresses, the primary support for the Gel Latex mattresses is the OptiCore high density latex support block. The OptiCore is 7" thick in each of the Gel Latex models. It yields a support equivalent to that of an orthopedic innerspring unit.

At the top of an Optimum Gel Latex mattress is Sealy's OptiCool gel latex foam which is fused with Outlast. Outlast was developed for NASA to control temperatures in space suits, keeping them within a desired range. Outlast fibers contain PCMs (Phase Change Materials), which change their physical state in response to changes in temperature. When the temperature exceeds the upper limit of the range, the PCMs liquify by absorbing heat. When the temperature falls below the lower limit of the range, they solidify, releasing heat. The kinds and proportions of PCMs in the Outlast used with OptiCool gel latex foam is selected to keep the temperature with a range suitable for comfortable sleeping.

The OptiCool gel latex foam itself regulates temperature. The gel in OptiCool absorbs heat and conducts it away from the sleeping surface. This way the gel and the Outlast work together to keep the Sealy Optimum Gel Latex mattress cool enough to be comfortable.

Underneath the OptiCool layer is a layer of OptiSense® Premium Latex. This is 1" to 4" thick, depending on the model. OptiSense® has a conformity rivaling memory foam. But Latex is more resilient, responding instantly to any lessening of pressure. This keeps the sleeper from feeling the "sinking sensation" of being trapped in the mattress. A benefit of this resilient conformity is the minimization of motion transfer. That way, when one person moves, the other is not disturbed.

The choices of foundation for mattresses in the Optimum Gel Latex Collection are the Optimum Foundation, especially designed for use with specialty sleep mattresses, and the Optimum Reflexion Powerbase, an adjustable bed. The Reflexion has a Dual Wave massage, a wireless handset, and a "night light" under the bed.

The recommended cleaning method for an Optimum Gel Latex mattress is vacuuming. To remove a stain, use mild soap with cold water, applying lightly without soaking (no dry cleaning fluid).

Gel Latex mattresses, like all Optimum mattresses, has a 25-year limited warranty.
