OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau
The OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau was unveiled by Orgamiv Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) early 2012. It is a 100% Talalay latex mattress. One claim made for it by OMI and its retailers was, "The OrganicPedic® Flora Nouveau is changing the face of the organic mattress industry." I can neither verify nor disprove that claim, but more latex mattresses are now on the market, and many of them claim to be made of "natural" and/or "organic" components.

The Flora Nouveau is a two-sided mattress, which means first that there is an extra level of cushioning and shock absorption from below the support core. But this also means a longer useful life for the mattress, since it can be flipped to use the other surface.

Being two-sided gives the 8.5" OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau a sandwich profile. The latex core is 3" thick. On either side of it are 2" layers of soft latex. This mattress comes in two firmness levels, Plush and Medium. This is determined by the latex support core, which is firm for the Medium and medium for the Plush.

The advantages of the 100% natural latex are first, it is completely organic, made from rubber tree sap. Second, latex is resistant to mold, mildew, and dust mites. It is also highly resilient and durable.

The combination of support and cushion latex in the OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau is to provide support which comforms to the body's contours and weight. This is designed to promote proper spinal alignment while relieving pressure points.

The final comfort touch is the OrganicPedic cushion-quilted knit cover. The fabric is made of organic cotton, grown in America without the use of pesticides and herbicides. It is quilted to Eco-Wool, which is not treated with chemicals either on or off the sheep.

The advantages of wool in the OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau are (1) its temperature and moisture wicking properties, (2) its cushioning, and (3) it is a natural fire retardant, meaning that federal fire retardancy standards are met without the use of chemicals.

The preferred foundations for the OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau are box springs and European wood slats (both of which are made by Organic Mattresses, Inc.), platform beds and adjustable bases.

OrganicPedic Flora Nouveau mattresses are hand-crafted and custom made, therefore dimensions may vary slightly. They carry a 20-year limited warranty. It is sold by several retailers coast-to-coast. Most of these retailers list the firmness level as Medium-Firm, but since they are made-to-order, you may request Plush if that is your preference.
