Ortho Avant Cozy is a member of the

The
Cozy is a 2-layer mattress. The bottom layer is support-level memory foam. Memory foam is a visco-elastic material derived from material developed by NASA to cushion astronauts at launch. It is engineered to provide conforming support. It adjusts its shape in response to heat and weight to conform to the contours of a sleeper's body. This is to provide relief from excessive pressure at certain points of the body. For side sleepers, this also is to promote correct spinal alignment.
An additional benefit of memory foam is that it dampens the transfer of motion. What this means is that when one sleeper gets into bed, turns over, or gets up, it should not disturb the other sleeper. The
Ortho Avant Cozy also has what
Ortho Mattress calls "solid state" edge support.
Memory foam by itself tends to accumulate users' body heat. It can become too warm to sleep comfortably. The second layer of the
Ortho Avant Cozy is gel-infused memory foam. The role of gel is twofold. Gel is a heat sink. It transfers heat away from the sleeping surface to where is can be dissipated, cooling the mattress. Gel also has supportive properties which moderate those of memory foam. Thus gel-infused memory foam is a bit more even in its support.
As with other manufacturers' foam mattresses, a foundation offering solid support is needed for the
Ortho Avant Cozy. The two bases suggested by
Ortho Mattress are a platform foundation or an adjustable bed, both of which are sold in the
Ortho Mattress stores.
The unquilted cover of the
Ortho Avant Cozy is hypoallergenic and meets federal flammability standards. It is made and shipped factory direct, and comes with a 10-year non-prorated warranty.
