The Med Care mattress by Paramount Mattress, like the Posture Supreme, has 13-gauge coils, is two-sided, and has multi-needle quilting. But it also has features not listed for the other model, such as insulator pads and foam toppers. This model is made for health care.
The 13-gauge springs in the Med Care are most likely Bonnell coils. They are encircled by perimeter rods which hold the innerspring in place and also supply edge support.
High-tensile insulator pads on both sides of the innerspring separate the coils from the foam toppers. This is to protect the foam from the coils and to keep the foam from jamming the coils.
High density foam toppers ease the firmness of the springs. The kind of foam is not named, but it is probably polyurethane. Polyurethane foam is very versatile. It can be made in a wide range of densities and firmness levels, and can be infused with various substances to add or enhance certain properties, such as support, breathability, and permeability or impermeability to liquids.
The mattress has a quilted cover of white knit fabric, a choice compatible with health care facilities. The same fabric is used on the wood foundation. The same quilting is on both sides, since this mattress can be flipped to reduce wear.
The mattress set comes with a wood foundation. This is a box frame with a flat or closely-slatted surface to provide consistent support for the mattress. A sure foundation will extend the life of the mattress. Other suitable foundations include qualifying box springs (such as Leggett & Platt's Semi-Flex) and platform beds. The foundation is covered with fabric matching the mattress cover. Adjustable beds may be acceptable, especially hospital beds, but first check with the retailer or manufacturer.
Considering the kind of use the Med Care mattress is designed for, the Paramount Mattress warranty is only for 5 years. Other manufacturers also have shorter warranties on healthcare mattresses than on their other models.
