Paramount Mattress's Vinyl Mattress is designed for institutional use. According to the company, it is "Ideal for institutional use in shelters, dorms and hotels." Serial use (by one person after another) requires that the mattress be repeatedly cleanable and resist penetration and infiltration by fluids, dust mites, bed bugs, lint, etc.
According to Paramount Mattress, the Vinyl Mattress is "Bed Bug Resistant, Fire Retardant, hypoallergenic, easy to clean & maintain." The cover is "hospital grade" vinyl. This kind of vinyl, also used on other brands of institutional mattresses, is tough and tear-resistant. The seams are sealed to keep dirt and pests out.
Ticking made of 210-denier nylon is also available for dormitories and health care facilities. This thread density of nylon is breathable while still fluid-resistant.
The support core of the Vinyl Mattress is an innerspring of Bonnell coils made of 13-gauge wire. The perimeter rods of this flippable 2-sided innerspring mattress supply edge support to the two sleeping surfaces.
On either side of the innerspring unit of the Vinyl Mattress is an insulator pad, transitioning support from the coils to the foam padding, and protecting the foam from the springs. These pads have a high tensile strength to increase mattress durability.
The foam in the padding on both sides has high density. It is enough to moderate the firmness of the coils to Medium Firm, soft enough to relieve some pressure points. Though not specified, this is probably polyurethane foam.
The Vinyl Mattress is not normally a consumer item. Paramount Mattress has special rates for institutions, shelters and hospitals.
A wood slatted foundation is available for use with the Vinyl Mattress if it is not used on a hospital bed.
Paramount Mattress covers the Vinyl Mattress with a 5-year manufacturers warranty.
