The Asteria Collection is made exclusively for Bloomingdale's by Paramount Sleep (PS). Asteria is one of only six brands of mattresses carried by this high-end department store. PS describes two secondary collections, Athena and Apollo. These sub-divisions do not show on Bloomingdale's listings, but are evident in the type of innerspring specified for each model.
Among the ingredients used in Asteria mattresses are two kinds of wool, silk, natural cotton, natural latex, and quilting foams (some with gel). Not all of these are on each model. For instance, all but one of the models have latex foam, four have cotton batting, and one has just comfort foam (polyurethane). And there is a similar distribution of quilting materials with gel-infused foam, HD comfort foam, a silk-wool blend, and New Zealand wool.
Bloomingdale's lists six models of Asteria innerspring mattresses: Asteria Aura (12" high), Asteria Atlas (11"), Asteria Ersa (14"), Asteria Hera (14"), Asteria Carina Pillow Top (15"), and Asteria Vela Euro Top (15"). They range in in firmness levels from Extra Firm to Plush. The two shortest models have one type of innerspring, while the rest have the other. All models have foam encasement, which supports the edge of the sleeping surface.
Paramount Sleep calls the innerspring for the Athena sub-collection an "Ultra Support Coil Unit," with a count of 475 (Queen size) 12½-gauge coils. The coil type is not specified by either PS or Bloomingdale's. The retailer just calls this an "innerspring" and the other one "pocket coils." The coil count and gauge seem to suggest offset coils, which can have a conformity approaching that of pocket coils, but are significantly more stable. The Aura has a Plush comfort level, while Erisa is Extra Firm, which can be explained by the difference in the cushioning (latex and HD foam versus cotton batting).
The other innerspring is simply called "pocket coils" by Bloomingdale's. Paramount Sleep calls this an "Advanced Progressive Coil Design." Their description is of dual coils, a coil-in-coil design. The advantage of this is a taller-but-more-yielding outer coil and a shorter-but-firmer inner coil, which especially is suited to couples of drastically different body sizes.
The covers of Bloomingdale's Asteria Collection mattresses are designer Damask quilted with hand-tufting. The tufting keeps layers from shifting. The sides of the covers have handles to ease adjustment of the mattress on the foundation.
The Amish-made foundations for Paramount Sleep Asteria Collection mattresses are made of furniture-grade spruce wood. Called "box springs" by Bloomingdale's (out of habit of use), they have 18 wooden slats and a center beam. This resilient support is engineered for mattress durability. Asteria models are also compatible with adjustable beds, and are likely also compatible with European wood slat bases.
Mattresses in the Bloomingdale's Asteria Collection by Paramount Sleep are covered by a 20-year warranty. They are found exclusively at Bloomingdale's department stores.
