Dr Maas Collection

Dr. James Maas retired as a professor from Cornell University. With 40 years as a sleep researcher and author of books about sleep, such as Sleep for Success, Dr. Maas is now a consultant to Paramount Sleep (PS), a bedding manufacturer in Norfolk, Virginia. PS has a line of mattresses named after Dr. Maas. Currently, the Dr. Maas Collection has 5 models: Dr. Maas 400 Gel Firm, 1400 Gel Firm, 800 Gel Firm, 200 Gel Firm, 1200 Gel Firm. The common key features of mattresses in the Dr. Maas Collection are the Pocket Spring Coil, Naturally Cool rayon-silk-wool blend fabric quilted cover, high density/quality foams, gel memory foam, and furniture grade wood foundation.

Pocket Spring Coil - The first key feature in the Dr. Maas Collection is the Pocket Spring Coil. Individually wrapped and set pocket coils, unlike those which are wired together, respond independently to the pressure on each coil, conforming support to the shape of the sleeper's body. This reduces pressure points while also promoting correct spinal alignment. These springs are made of tempered steel and wrapped in durable fabric. The reduction in discomfort enables uninterrupted sleep.

Naturally Cool - Combining rayon, silk and wool in covers of the Dr. Maas Collection takes advantage of their properties of breathability, smoothness and moisture wicking to keep the sleeping surface cool and dry.

High Density, Quality Foams - According to Paramount Sleep, "Only the highest-quality foams are used throughout the entire" Dr. Maas Collection. This includes their memory foam, polyurethane, and gel memory foam. The claimed benefits of high density and quality are "reduced body impressions and long comfort life." Also, they have a better response when lain upon.

Gel Memory Foam - It sounds like a fad, but so many mattress manufacturers use gel-infused memory foam because it works. Several firms are refining the formulation and processing of gel memory foam to make work better. The Dr. Maas Collection uses visco-elastic memory foam infused with gel beads to (1) enhance the support characteristics of the memory foam, and (2) to keep the sleeping surface cool.

Furniture Grade Wood Foundation - Getting down to the bottom, the Dr. Maas Collection uses Amish-crafted wood-slat foundations under its mattresses because they can handle more weight and last longer than standard coil-based box springs. The resilient wood slats, bowed slightly upward without weight applied, act like springs to provide solid support with a little give. It's like the difference between walking on a cement slab and on a wood floor over wood joists.

The composition of mattresses in the Dr. Maas Collection reduces or eliminates motion transfer. This way, one sleeping partner's movements will not disturb the other.

Mattresses in the Dr. Maas Collection carry a 15-year non-prorated warranty. They are available in the market areas of members of the Paramount Sleep Alliance.
