GoodNite for Kids

The GoodNite brand of mattresses are "Built For Kids," but not just for kids. According to Paramount Sleep (PS), these mattresses are designed to adapt to the size and weight of a growing child through adolescence and into adulthood.

On their website, Paramount Sleep outlines four key features of GoodNite brand mattresses for kids: Utmost Support for Growing Bodies, New Low-Profile Spring Technology, Anti-Microbial Damask Fabric Combined with Natural Flame Retardant Rayon Fiber, and Safety. These four essentially boil down to two categories, Support and Safety.

Support

Paramount Sleep claims the use of new technologies in the support systems of the GoodNite mattresses, in both springs and foam. The innersprings are described as "durable" and "adult-strength." And "great stability and durability" are attributed to the all-foam models.

According to Paramount Sleep, innerspring mattresses in the GoodNite line are engineered to be suitable for all stages in the growth of the child, to adapt to the increasing size and body weight. The objective is "maximum support and quality sleep." There are many my age who wish we had this during our earlier years, especially in our teens when our beds hadn't yet caught up with our growth.

One retail group names the coils used in GoodNite innerspring mattresses as VertiCoil Edge, an open-offset coil innerspring with alternating coils. This is made by a subsidiary of Leggett & Platt, a leading U.S. supplier of mattress components. It was designed to give offset coils more flexibility and more stability at the same time.

When it comes to foam mattresses, durability is a key issue. Many times in customer reviews, consumers complain that foam layers have developed impressions and serious sagging. Weight may be an issue in some of these cases. Another manufacturer said that certain of their foam beds were not advisable for persons over a certain weight. Certain types of foam are more supportive and more durable than others. Without specifying the exact material, Paramount Sleep is indicating that the support cores of their GoodNite foam mattresses are of the more supportive and durable kind. Though not specified, the support core in the all-foam GoodNite models is most likely made of polyurethane foam.

Safety

In the PS descriptions of the key features of GoodNite mattresses, three kinds of safety concerns are addressed:

The first is safety from infectious organisms. The Damask cover fabric of GoodNite matresses is treated to be antimicrobial, to keep the sleeping surface sanitary. The reason for this is obvious to anyone who has cared for kids.

The second concern is fire safety. The cover fabric is quilted to a fire barrier of rayon with infused silica, a non-chemical flame retaramt used by several mattress manufacturers.

The third concern is physical safety. According to Paramount Sleep, "Every mattress meets Consumer Product Safety Commission Recommended Standards for use with bunk beds." This means the mattress will not let a child fall through, the edge will not sag causing the child to roll off, and certain other bunkbed hazzards are avoided.

Models

There are a few models of PS GoodNite mattresses for kids. Some of the models named here may be the same as others, since different retailers or retail groups often use different sets of names for the same set of models. On the other hand, some retailers may still be showing the older models as new ones are coming out. Among the model names currently used are Whisper, Hush, Moon, Sophia, Bella, Gianna, and Amelia.

GoodNite Whisper, Moon, Bella, Gianna and Amelia are innerspring mattresses, while Hush and Sophia are all-foam mattresses. Nowhere in online descriptions is memory foam mentioned in either class of mattresses, which leads to the conclusion that it is not used in this series.

Several retailers across the country carry GoodNite for Kids mattresses from Paramount Sleep. These mattresses carry a 10-year warranty.
