Kessner Super Pillow Top

The middle model of the Perfect Sleeper brand's SmartSurface Elite Collection is the Kessner Super Pillow Top. The comfort level is slightly softer than the Newfound Bay Plush in the same collection. The list of components in the comfort section (aka "top upholstery") of the two models differs in the 1" bottom foam. While the Newfound Bay Plush has Serta's Support Foam, the Kessner Super Pillow Top has PillowSoft.


The signature set of features for the SmartSurface Elite Collection, including the Kessner Super Pillow Top, are in the quilted cover. The polyester-lycra-rayon heavy-weight stretch-knit cover fabric is quilted to FireBlocker fiber, Body Loft anti-microbial quilting fiber, MicroSupport Gel in latex, and PillowSoft foam. The Body Loft wicks moisture away for a dry surface. The highly resilient latex is infused with Serta's MicroSupport gel for enhanced support. And the PillowSoft is for cushioning plushness.

The Kessner Super Pillow Top also shares with the other SmartSurface Elite innerspring mattresses the Free Flex continuous coil innerspring. The design of the coils has been modified to make them more responsive for better spinal support and to relieve pressure. The longitudinal alignment of the rows minimizes motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other. Custom Support Design creates 25% greater coil density in the center portion of the mattress for additional support under heavier areas of the body.

This model is differentiated in the comfort section, called "top upholstery" by Serta. The 2¾" topmost comfort layer is Serta's Comfort XD™ foam. XD stands for "Extra Deep." According to Serta, "This extra deep layer of soft yet supportive foam gently cradles the body to help reduce the pressure build up that can cause discomfort and disrupt a peaceful sleep." Under this is an Innerpanel, separating the pillowtop from the rest of the comfort section.


Cool Twist Gel Memory Foam
The top upholstery also includes Cool Twist™ Gel Memory Foam. This memory foam is infused with liquid gel instead of the more common gel beads. Memory foam conforms to body contours to relieve pressure. Liquid gel is supportive, but also cools. It may be more effective at cooling than beads, since there is continuous conduction of heat along the veins of gel.

The Cool Twist rests on a 1" layer of PillowSoft foam. Between this and the innerspring is an Insulator Pad. This keeps the PillowSoft foam from pushing into the coils.


Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Base
Compatible foundations for the SmartSurface Elite Kessner Super Pillow Top mattress include platforms, such as the Serta StabL-Base, and adjustable beds, such as the Serta Motion Essentials (made and warrantied by Ergomotion). Box springs may work, but they have been largely replaced by platform foundations, which are longer-lasting and have more consistent support. Newer platform bases, with their own resilient interior structure, absorb shock better than the older models. Adjustable beds can be adjusted to positions suitable for individual users. The StabL-Base is available in two heights: 9" Standard and 5.25" Low Profile.

Like all SmartSurface models, the Kessner Super Pillow Top innerspring mattress carries Serta's 20-year limited warranty. Serta also has a 45-day sleep trial periond, called the Comfort Asurance Program, to give the users a chance to find out if that model has their comfort level.
