Memory Zone and Memory Zone Deluxe
According to Dr. Rick Swartzburg, the Memory Zone Mattress (MZ) by Relief-Mart and sold through their Selectabed division replaced two older models, the Selectabed 2000 and the Selectabed 5000. Dr. Swartzburg is V.P. of Design at Relief-Mart, and at the time he wrote his article, he said that with the Memory Zone, the buyer had a choice of 4-lb. or 5-lb. memory foam in the top layer. He also memtions only one Memory Zone model, so this must have been before the Memory Zone Deluxe was introduced. The current descriptions of Memory Zone memory foam mattresses show the top layers have 4-lb. foam.
Like Tri-Pedic models, Memory Zone Mattresses have three layers with progressive support top-to-bottom. However, the top two layers in a Tri-Pedic mattress are both memory foam, 4-lbs. on top and 5-lbs. in the middle, while the middle layers in MZ models are made of PolyFlex, the Relief-Mart polyurethane foam that is the signature feature of their PolyFlex Mattresses series. The memory foam on top is still 4-lbs., and the PolyFlex is 5-lbs.
The use of polyurethane foam in the middle layer reduces the cost of the mattress while still offering the benefits of memory foam on the top. Relief-Mart calls this the "Affordable Memory Foam Mattress Series."
Memory Zone Deluxe, the newer model in the Memory Zone series, is an inch higher than the original Memory Zone. The memory foam comfort layer in the Deluxe is 3" high, and it is 2" in the Memory Zone.
The chief advantage of memory foam in a mattress is its conformity to the contours of a sleeper's body. This relieves pressure on larger joints such as shoulders, hips and knees. It also support smaller areas, such as the lower back (lumbar). A seconday benefit, if more than one sleeper uses the bed, is isolation of motion; thus one sleeper's movements do not disturb the other.
The PolyFlex support layer is 2" high in both models.
The support core in both Memory Zone models is 5" high. It is a very firm high density foam, for orthopedic grade support.
Memory foam tends to collect heat. The lighter, less temperature sensitive memory foam at the top of the mattress also is not as hot. as the original memory foam, And the PolyFlex under this is not as hot as memory foam. But for those who desire or need cooler sleep, there is the optional AirFlow Transfer System. With this option, the top two layers are vertically ventilated, and the top surface of the support core is contoured for horizontal air flow.
The cover of the Relief-Mart Memory Zone and Memory Zone Deluxe mattresses is the stretch knit Kool-Flow Micro-Vented fabric. This cover is removable so it can be washed.
The preferred foundations for Memory Zone series mattresses are platform beds, solid-top box bases and adjustable beds. These models come with a 120-day trial period and are covered by a 20-year limited warranty.
