Restonic ComfortCare Select Collection

ComfortCare Select by Restonic is one of the mattress manufacturer's new collections, being placed alongside the original ComfortCare collection with the other new collections: ComfortCare Signature and ConfortCare Limited. ComfortCare Select models are described by several retailers as hybrid mattresses, with foams constituting a significant proportion of the height. Mattresses in each of these new collections feature Restonic's TempaGel. They also feature a foam-encased innerspring of individually wrapped pocket coils with Restonic's Marvelous Middle coil zoning. This contrasts with the original ComfortCare's use of open coils (such as Bonnell, offset or continuous coils).

ComfortCare Select mattresses range in height from 12 to 15½ inches. Models may be tight-top, pillow-top or euro-top. Comfort levels vary from extra firm to plush. The fabric in the cover is not disclosed (it may vary by local manufacturer or retailer), but the cover is part of a 1½ to 2" deep quilt. The quilting itself has a Marvelous Middle with more supportive materials in the center (lumbar) section.

The top comfort layer in ComfortCare Select mattresses is TempaGel, Restonic's own patented formulation of gel memory foam. This is memory foam with gel added. The gel makes the memory foam more supportive while remaining conforming. Gel also absorbs and conducts heat, transfering it away from the sleeping surface to where it can dissipate. A few retailers call this Cool-Gel Memory Foam, harking back to the previous formulation or name for this gel foam.

Other foams are used in ComfortCare Select models. Which foams are employed depends on the model. The choice of foam shapes the firmness and the feel of the mattress, and is what distinguises the models from each other.

A hybrid mattress is a combination of two kinds of mattress. The most common hybrid is memory foam mattress and innerspring mattress. Other types of hybrid mattresses include latex/innerspring and latex/memory foam.

The support unit of ComfortCare Select mattresses consists of about 850 pocket coils in a Queen size mattress (the actual count varies by retailer). They are about 8" high. These coils are individually wrapped. Their independent response conforms to sleepers' body contours and weight to relieve pressure on joints. Pocket coils are a definite improvement from the open coils in the original ComfortCare collection.

The pocket coil array is zoned for more support in the center, where the lower back is located. Called the Marvelous Middle, Restonic says the this center section has a "higher wire density." It is unclear exactly what this means. Most likely it would be more coils, but it could also mean denser (higher gauge) wire in the coils or more turns per coil (more wire used). According to Restonic, this not only gives more support to the lower back, it also prolongs the life of the mattress by preventing sagging in the middle, a concern with many innerspring mattresses.

Surrounding the pocket coil innerspring is Superedge Plus, a foam encasement. This high-density foam holds the pocket coils in place while providing edge suppport to the surface. This prevent rolling off due to edge sag. According to one retailer (US-Mattress), this is supplemented by a 6-gauge border rod, which makes sense with the extra height of the foams.

Foundations for the ComfortCare Select mattresses include a box spring (steel semi-flex), platforms, and adjustable beds. Closely-spaced wood slats would also be acceptable.

Depending on the retailers, warranties on mattresses in the ComfortCare Select Collection by Restonic are for 10 or 15 years. These mattresses are carried by many retailers. Model names do vary by retailer or retail group.
