Restonic ComfortCare Signature Collection

The ComfortCare Signature Collection by Restonic Mattress Corporation is like the ComfortCare Select Collection with the addition of the Breathable Border and the Outlast cover. Shared features of the two collections include the TempaGel™ top layer, Marvelous Middle™ support zoning, Superedge Plus™ Foam Encasement, and the 884-count pocketed coil units. Members of both collections are classified as hybrid mattresses.

Also like the Select mattresses, there is considerable variety in those of the Signature series in size and firmness. Besides the TempaGel memory foam, other foams determine the height and comfort level of each model. Also, there is retailer-to-retailer variance in models' names and features, partly reflecting the multiple-manufacturer compositon of Restonic.

The cover of a ComfortCare Signature mattress consists of Outlast®. This is a temperature regulating material developed for NASA to protect astronauts and sensitive instruments from extremes of heat and cold. Phase change materials (PCMs) are embedded in the fibers. The function of the PCMs is to keep temperatures within a designated range. At the top of the range, the PCMs absorb a lot of heat as they liquify. At the bottom of the range, PCMs solidify, releasing heat. Since they were first developed, hundreds of PCMs have been engineered for many temperature ranges.

The use of Outlast keeps the sleeping surface of the mattress temperature neutral all the way across, side-to-side and end-to-end. This counters fluctuations in room temperature during the night (or during the day for shift workers). The even temperature lets a user sleep better, with longer REM cycles, for better, more restful sleep.

The cover also includes high-density gel-infused polyurethane foam which is shaped to foster air circulation.

TempaGel is a formulation of gel memory foam patented by Restonic. Gel is infused into the memory foam during the process of making the foam. Memory foam is conforming, contouring itself to the shape of the sleeper's body. This distributes the support evenly under the whole body, supporting the middle and low back while lessening pressure on large parts such as hips and shoulders.

But memory foam has a tendency to accumulate heat until it is too warm to be comfortable. The gel makes the memory foam more supportive. It also carries heat away from the surface.

A hybrid mattress is an innerspring mattress which shares support with foam(s). To be a genuine hybrid, the foam layers must be a significant portion of the overall height. The support core of the ComfortCare Signature Collection is an innerspring unit of individually wrapped pocket coils. These coils are about 8" high. Pocket coils (also called Marshall coils) respond individually to a sleeper's weight and shape, conforming in a manner similar to memory foam. Besides pressure relief, pocket coils isolate motion, reducing partner disturbance.

The pocket coils in the innerspring unit of a ComfortCare Signature mattress have a greater density in the center portion. Called the Marvelous Middle by Restonic, this center zone provides more support to the lower back. It also buttresses the mattress under the heaviest part of the body to guard against sagging. Restonic says it also promotes better circulation.

The coil unit is foam-encased with very firm foam. This Superedge Plus Foam Encasement Border holds the independent coils in place. It also provides edge support to the sleeping surface.

Superedge Plus pairs with AirFlow Edge in supporting the edge of the mattress. The AirFlow Edge permits air to enter and exit the mattress on the sides. The Breathable Border of the cover is a partner in this scheme. This system expands usable the sleeping surface as it cools and freshens the interior of the mattress.

For some reason, most retailers of ComfortCare Signature Collection mattresses do not give the heights of their models. But from the descriptions, it appears that they range from 10" to 15" high.

Mattresses in the ComfortCare Signature Collection are covered by Restonic's 15-year non-prorated warranty.
