The Earthspring is Savvy Rest's hybrid innerspring mattress. It has a top layer of latex, which is half the height or more of the innerspring for a total mattress height of 9 or 10 inches.
The innerspring of the Savvy Rest Earthspring mattress is Bonnell coils made of recycled steel. This mattress is a lower cost alternative to the higher-priced layered Savvy Rest latex mattresses, combining the benefits of latex with the support of the coils. One additional benefit of coils is the open space for airflow, which keeps the mattress cooler.
Savvy Rest inserts rolls of quilting to "cushion" the coils. Since the rolls in the photo indicate no additional support from the quilting and don't show them between the coils and anything else, it appears that this cushoning makes the coils quieter.
On the top and bottom of the springs are sheets of coir, a blend of coconut husk fiber and latex. The coir sheets are .8 cm (about 5/16") thick. They protect the foam and the casing from the coils.
The comfort layer of the Savvy Rest Earthspring hybrid mattress is 3" of Dunlop latex. This is made of 100% natural rubber latex sap from the rubber tree. Savvy Rest's Dunlop latex is made in Kerala, India, in a plant that only uses natural rubber tree sap.
The Earthspring mattress is covered with Savvy Rests's organic cotton and organic wool casing. Wool batting is quilted between two sheets of organic cotton. This makes a breathable casing. The wool is temperature neutral. Also, the wool batting is a natural flame retardant, eliminating the need to use chemicals.
It is recommended that the Earthspring hybrid mattress be used on a Savvy Rest Foundation or a platform bed. The reason is that this type of foundation provides the needed support to extend the life of the mattress. It also ensures adequate support for the sleepers. If a softer feel is desired, mattress toppers are recommended.
