The Savvy Rest Serenity organic mattress is a 10" latex mattress. It has three layers, 3" each, of 100% natural latex. Savvy Rest customers may choose Dunlop or Talalay latex for their Serenity mattresses. The overall firmness is also consumer selectable: Soft (Plush), Medium or Firm, decided by the combination of components in the individual mattress ordered.
The latex layers fill the roles of support and comfort. Latex foam can be made in firmnesses ranging from Ultra Firm (support core material) to Very Plush. The firmest foam in a specialty sleep (non-spring) mattress is customarilly at the bottom as the support core, with foam above constituting the comfort layer(s). In the Serenity, a choice can be made for each layer as to the type of latex (Dunlop or Talalay) and the firmness. For two-person sizes, the firmness levels can be split between the two sides, customizing the mattress for two individual sleepers.
The casing (cover or ticking) of Savvy Rest Serenity mattresses is made of organic cotton. Organic means the cotton is raised without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
The mattress cover of the Savvy Rest Serentiy is quilted to organic wool. The wool wicks moisture to keep the mattress dry. Evaporation of the moisture has a cooling effect. The cover is closed with a heavy brass zipper, the only non-organic component in this model.
The wool fashioned into batting also serves as a natural fire retardant, negating the need for chemical fire barriers.
The recommended foundation for the Serenity is a slatted base (like that made by Savvy Rest) or a platform bed (also made by them). The Serenity is also compatible with adjustable beds: Savvy Rest sells the 7S Supreme Adjustable Foundation by Reverie.
