Sealy Posturepedic® Classic Series
Mattresses in the
Posturepedic Classic Series by
Sealy are essentially the well-known
Posturepedic models with up-to-date enhancements. They feature the
Sealy Posturpedic heavy-duty coils.
Titanium SS coils, once a deluxe option, are now standard as the
Posturepedic® Classic Coil in the
Classic Series. These are made of a titanium-steel alloy, which is both very light and very strong, as well as very durable. According to
Sealy, this is a "single-stage coil design." The goal of this innerspring system is to provide orthopedic support, fostering correct spinal alignment.
Another key feature is what
Sealy calls the
CoreSupport Center™. The middle third (head to foot) of the mattress is more supportive, since that is where the most of the body weight is. For this innerspring series, this means higher coil density in this area.
. . .
Edge support for
Sealy Posturepedic® Classic Series mattresses uses
Sealy's
SolidEdge™ System. The advertised benefit of this system is the support it gives to the sleeping surface, allowing the user to sit on the edge without dipping. But another advantage, the economic one, is that if it works as advertised, it will extend the lifetime of the mattress by forestalling breakdown.
While the
Posturepedic® Classic Coil innerspring is designed to provide robust support for mattresses in the
Sealy Posturepedic® Classic Series, softeness and comfort comfort are expected from foams in the comfort layers. Among these foams are the
Sealy-patented
ActiveFlex and
Marvelux. At the very least, in Firm and Ultra Firm models, the foam smooths out the support of the springs so the sleeper does not feel the individual coils for a lumpy experience. On the other hand, higher and softer foams are in the Plush models to make the surface more cushioning and yielding without sacrificing orthopedic support.
ActiveFlex is polyurethane foam, described as "high quality." Its high density gives it "a firmer feel." It comes in more than one level of firmness. Some models described by retailers have "soft" and "very soft"
ActiveFlex foam. Sometimes it is a separate layer, and sometimes it is quilted into the cover.
I didn't find the composition of
Marvelux, but it is described as being an "extra firm" foam. It is also called "resilient." These foams are typically arranged with the firmest foam just above the coils and the softest in the quilted cover.
There are several names for
Sealy Posturepedic® Classic Series models. The model names depend on retailers or groups of retailers. Some retailers just name the models by the firmness levels. Others have names such as
Charlottetown,
Fernie,
La Sarre,
Coventry Place, and
Candiac.
Posturepedic® Classic mattresses are sold through national retailers such as Sears/Kmart and Macy's, as well as by many regional and local firms.
Most mattresses in the
Sealy Posturepedic® Classic Series carry a 20-year warranty. They are priced in the low to low-medium range.
