Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series

The Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series combines the traditional innerspring support of Posturepedic with the cushioning conforming comfort of gel memory foam. More than an innerspring mattress with foam padding, a hybrid mattress has several inches of foam, often in multiple layers, essentially a foam mattress wedded to a spring mattress.

The basic support for Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattresses is the Apex™ HS Coil innerspring unit. The 14 gauge titanium alloy pocket coils are individually wrapped and set in place. This arrangement allows each coil to respond to the weight applied directly to it. This coforms the support to the shape of the sleeper's body, reducing painful pressure points and fostering orthopedically correct spinal posture. The titanium alloy is more durable than ordinary steel springs. It more strongly supports weight, and it is more resistant to corrosion.

The individual coils are held in place and the entire sleeping surface edge is supported by the Sealy SolidEdge™ HD System. This system encases the whole perimeter of the Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattress.

The foam half of the mattress features Sealy's OptiCool® Gel Memory Foam, visco-elastic memory foam infused with gel. The gel serves as a heat sink, reversing memory foam's build-up of heat, which would otherwise make the mattress too hot to sleep on comfortably. The OptiCool®, which is featured in the Sealy Optimum mattresses, is fused with Outlast®, temperature-regulating fibers which contain Phase Change Materials (PCMs). PCMs change their physical state when temperatures are outside a certain range. If it is too hot, PCMs absorb heat as they liquify. If it is too cold, they release heat as they solidify. Outlast® was originally developed for use by astornauts in space suits. It is used in clothing for athletes and outdoor workers.

Below the OptiCool is the support foam, ActiveFlex. This soft-yet-supportive memory foam is to make the support level consistent. It is the major factor in determining the comfort level of a paticular model of Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattresses.

The center third of the Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattress features the CoreSupport Center™. This center area supports most of the body's weight. In this core area, the foam is heavier and coils are more densely clustered to provide more support where it is needed. This is to keep the heaviest part of the body, which includes the lower back (lumbar), from sagging. A benefit of this is the reduction of spinal misalignment, which leads to more back pain. It is also to extend the life of the mattress.

The covers of Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattresses feature ForeverFlex™, a lightweight fabric with 4-way stretch. Sealy says that its stretch characteristics are "best in class", which gives it a "body hugging" quality.

The Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattress itself rests on a StayTight™ foundation cover. This is to keep the mattress from slipping out of place.

Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series mattresses are compatible with Sealy's Reflexion® Powerbase, an adjustable bed. The exceptions are the Ultra-Firm models. However, Sealy also offers Standard (9") or Low-Profile (5") box springs.

Mattresses in the Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series come with a 25-year limited warranty.

There are several models in the Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Series, such as Majesty (Ultra Plush), Encourage (Plush), Abilty (Firm) and Trust (Cushion Firm). Some retailers, such as Macy's, have their own model names, but a comparison of models among retailers will reveal which are essentially the same. There are also two other groups of models with different mattress heights and model names available through multiple retailers.
