One news description of the introduction by Shifman Mattress Company of its Vintage Collection was, "What’s Old is New at Shifman Mattress Company." All of the models in this series are two-sided innerspring mattresses featuring natural materials and old-fashioned workmanship.
The three most often named models in the Vintage Collection are Plush Comfort, Saturn, and Soft Cloud. Each model has a high profile heavy-gauge steel double-offset coil innerspring, natural cotton comfort padding and Dacron fiber topper.
The double-offset coils in the innerspring unit have ends that are squared on both sides. They conform to body contours less so than pocket coils, but have greater stability, an advantage they also have over free-arm offset coils. Shifman mattresses are made to be long-lasting.
Edge support in the Vintage Collection is provided metal perimeter rods and a hard foam sheet between the outer rows of coils. The perimeter rods at the top and bottom of the coils hold the innerspring together as a unit. With rods both top and bottom, the advantage is that it does not matter which side of the mattress is up.
Vintage mattresses have four or five layers of natural cotton batting on each side. That's a lot of cotton, up to 83 pounds in a King size mattress! This is the primary cushioning in the mattress, moderating the firm support of the coils. The cotton batting is held in place by Shifman's patented Sanotuft technique of buttonless hand-tufting.
The cover of Shifman Vintage Collection mattresses is Belgian Damask. Just under the cover is a fire barrier made from wood pulp (probably a form of rayon fashioned for fire resistance). Just under this fire barrier is a loft-fiber topper padding of Dacron (a brand of polyester).
The three models in the Vintage Collection are Saturn, Soft Cloud and Plush Comfort. Saturn is the firmest model. Soft Cloud is a bit less firm with slightly lighter-gauge coils. Soft Cloud is the highest mattress, with five cotton layers on each side, while the other two models have four. According to one retailer, Soft Cloud also has ½" of foam on each side. The overall heights of Vintage mattresses are 8" (Saturn), 9" (Plush Comfort) and 10" (Soft Cloud).
Each Vintage Collection mattress comes with a hand-crafted box spring designed for that model. Foundations these mattresses also work with are platform beds and adjustable beds.
The Shifman warranty for each Vintage Collection mattress-boxspring set is for 10-years. However, if the mattress is purchased without the box spring, the warranty is for only 5 years.

We are on our way to purchase a new mattress at Shovlin Mattress Factory NJ. With a hip replacement surgery due in August this year and no support for my hip pn the Shifman = need a new unit -- researched seem Shoviln Tri Zone will be a good choice.
Mattress Rating:
Mattress Comfort: 
After just 2 years the center has broken down on our king Saturn particularly the edges on both sides though the center of the bed.
Mattress Durability:
The durability is fine as far as the fabric covering but that doesn't help much when the bed structure fails
Mattress Support:
Again with the center broken down support is terrible for the butt and small of the back and on your side the hip areas.
Mattress Features and Benefits as Advertised:
We bought our first Shifman in 1985 basicly the same except the top fabric was nicer than the current one -- it lasted for 28 years and still was relatively supportive. Shifmans rep said well turn it side ways = what a joke -- turn a king side ways
Quality:
The rep explained they had a brilliant idea of making a "hinge" in the center bar edge supports! Reason = king mattresses could be bent (straped) to make them easier to get into peoples domiciles -- guess they thought NYC structures and elevators -- it did but didn't work!
