Simmons Beautyrest Black Brooklyn
Brooklyn is a two-model series in the Beautyrest BlacK collection by Simmons. There are three other series named on the Beautyrest BlacK site plus another four listed on retailers' sites. However, Macy's has its own names for models, so one has to compare the specifications of their models with those of the Brooklyn series to make a match.

Beautyrest features what Simmons calls Recharge Technology. This is a combination of Simmons' pocket coils, called the Veriform Advanced Pocketed Coil System, AirCool® memory foam and the AirCool® Design.


Simmons claims to have introduced the technology of pocket coils. These coils are not tied to each other, but each coil is free to respond independently to weight placed directly on it. This is to make the innerspring conformable to the sleeper's body contours to relieve pressure and allow the spine to find the correct posture.

The AirCool® memory foam is infused with two kinds of gel. GelTouch™ is a cooling gel. It transfers heat from the sleeping surface to where it can dissipate. TruTemp™ Gel is a temperature moderating gel. It absorbs heat and stores it to be released later when needed. Together they are to keep the sleeping surface within a desired temperature range.

The AirCool® Design fosters air flow to help keep the mattress cool, as well as fresh. This includes the edge support, the ventilated AirCool® BeautyEdge® Foam Encasement. The encasing foam is penetrated by perforations to permit air to flow into and out of the mattress. It also includes a mesh border fabric.

Simmons Beautyrest says that the Beautyrest Black collection is "Perfectly tailored from the finest hand-selected materials" and "is the ultimate design in luxury, comfort and performance." The two models are Brooklyn Plush Pillow Top and Brooklyn Plush Firm Pillow Top. They have comfort ratings of 8 and 3 respectively on a scale of 1-10, so the former may be rated as medium plush and the latter as medium firm. The reality is that manufacturers' names for firmness levels is not standardized, but selected for marketing.

The circular knit cover fabric of the Brooklyn models is made from modal yarn. This is quilted with fire resistant fibers, GelTouch® foam and "comfort foam." The three comfort layers are AirCool® memory foam with GelTouch, plush "comfort foam," and another "comfort foam." The firmness level of this "comfort foam" in the quilt and in the lowest comfort layer are where the two models differ. In Brooklyn Plush Pillow Top, these are Plush. In Brooklyn Plush Firm Pillow Top, they are Luxury Firm.

The coil count in the Beautyrest Black Brooklyn mattresses is 850 (queen size). The wire guage is 14.75, a little to the light side of innerspring coil gauges, which usually range from 12 to 16.

The recommended foundation for the Beautyrest Black Brooklyn models is the Triton® European Foundation, a box spring with a PowerBeam brace. Beautyrest Black mattresses are also compatible with the Beautyrest NuFlex adjustable base.

The Beautyrest BlacK Brooklyn Plush Pillow Top and Brooklyn Plush Firm Pillow Top carry a 25-year warranty. The first 15 years are non-prorated, and the last 10 are prorated. These models are available through many retailers, both in stores and online, including national chains and several regional and local chains and independent dealers.
