Sleep Number Classic c4 by Select Comfort

"Relax into a plush zoned layer of comfort that offers relief where your body needs it most." That is how Select Comfort touts its Sleep Number Classic c4, the top mattress in the Classic Series. In this 10" high airbed, the signature Sleep Number® adjustability is topped with a combination of foams, fiber filling and quilted fabric.

The heart of any of the Select Comfort airbeds, including the Classic c4, is Sleep Number DualAir™ technology. This twin chamber system, with dual wireless contol units, lets the users make adjustments to the Sleep Number firmness levels quickly and easily, individually for each side of the bed. These levels range from extra firm to the softness of a featherbed. A lasting advantage of this is being able to change the firmness or softness of the bed as needs change over the years.

Atop this air support system in the Sleep Number Classic c4 by Select Comfort is the comfort top. At the bottom of the comfort top is the 1.5-inch support layer of edge-to-edge convoluted foam. This polyurethane foam is distributed in 5 zones to better support the body's curves.

Next is 1 inch of super soft foam, which is quilted into the pillow top of this Sleep Number Classic Series mattress, to provide plushness. Then a layer of fiberfill is put there as a moisture wick to keep the sleepers dry.

Finally, the top of the Classic c4 mattress is covered with a woven blend of rayon and polyester, soft and smooth yet durable. The whole pillowtop is infused with an antimicrobial treatment to protect the sleepers' health and to keep the mattress fresh.

Select Comfort recommends using one of their own foundations for the Sleep Number Classic c4: the Modular base, the FlexFit™ adjustable base, or the FlexFit™ PLUS adjustable base. The cost of the Modular is included in the price of the set. It is made from American produced materials to provide a solid platform to support and protect Sleep Number airbeds. The head and/or foot of the two FlexFit adjustable bases can be elevated by the touch of a button on the wireless control. In additon, the PLUS has a massage feature to help soothe tired muscles.

They adverstise 100 satisfaction, but read the fine print because it will cost you dearly to return and parts of your order may not be returnable. For most, the cost would cause them to keep the bed and just endure as that cost will be equivalent to a mattress you can find on sale.

Mattress Rating: 3 starsMattress Durability:

It is brand new so I don't know at this point. We will be working on getting it returned...oh, we should have read the fine print.

Mattress Support:

The sleep number supposedly goes from 0 to 100, however once you get below 30 you can feel components of the bed. The top is going to be critical to any decision being made. The mattress at home does not feel the same as the one in the store. I believe one of the main reasons for this is that in the store they always put the bed on 100 before you lay on it. Therefore, it is rock hard and as you lay on it they reduce the number. You then feel the bed conform to your body. However, at home you are not going to do this, plus you will be laying on it longer. In the store I would recommend that once you find your number have it set to that number before you get on it. Getting on and off is much different and the way it feels is different.

Mattress Features and Benefits as Advertised:

There is the benefit of being able to ajust the firmness. However, I have found that it doesn't really make all that much of a difference. The only benefit is possibly on that occasion that your back really hurts and you want something hard. It would beat laying on the floor.

Quality:

Basically a sleep number is a waterbed with air. The construction of the mattress is very different than a normal mattress. To understand this the bed is delivered in a box and the whole thing is put together. I am really not impressed by it.
