The description of the Sleep Science 10" Memory Foam Mattress listed by Costco is virtually indistinguishable from the Sleep Science 10" Emma formerly listed by Costco, which is still listed by Electropedic and its retailers, as well as Costco Canada (with the same photo). If there have been any changes in its composition, they are not noted on the pages for the newer model.
The jacquard cover fabric of the Emma on Costco was identified as polyester, but no fiber is named in the description of the new Sleep Science 10" Memory Foam Mattress. It is just called "soft jacquard fabric." For both models, this cover is removable and washable. In the current model, this is called "hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant."
The top layer of both models is 3" of memory foam. In both, this layer is encircled by the 3" x 3" Wedge Edge foam encasement, which serves as edge support for the sleeping surface. This is the same Wedge Edge featured in Blissful Nights mattresses, also made by South Bay International, though here it is called the Wedge Support System.
Likewise, the middle layer of Emma and the 10-Inch is South Bay's 2" high "air comfort layer" of large open-cell foam. The purpose of this foam is to allow the memory foam to dissipate heat at the bottom, the middle of the mattress. The warmed air can then escape through the porous side panels of the cover in exchange for cooler air.
The 5" support core of the Sleep Science 10" Mattress and the Emma is very firm polyurethane base foam. This is the underlyng support for the entire mattress.
Sleep Science says, "This mattress should rest upon a solid surface for best results." The preferred foundations offering this kind of support are platform beds, solid-top box-framed bases and adjustable beds, such as the Motion Trend made by South Bay and sold under the Sleep Science brand. Also acceptable are european wood slat bases if the slats are closer than 2½ inches. However, old-style box springs are not suitable for either memory foam mattresses or latex mattresses.
The Sleep Science 10" Memory Foam Mattress is covered by the South Bay International 20-Year Limited Warranty.
