The Astoria is a 12" high memory foam mattress made by South Bay International and sold by Costco under the Sleep Science brand. Its principal features are the Air Channel Base support core, two layers of memory foam and the Wedge Edge foam encasement. The overall comfort level is Plush. There is no equivalent Blissful Nights mattress.
The top of the cover of the Astoria 12" Memory Foam Mattress is removeable and washable, thanks to the all-around zipper. It is lined with a fire retardant layer which meets federal flammability standards.
The memory foam layers in the Astoria are each 2" high. The upper one is 4 lbs. and the second layer 3 lbs. Memory foam conforms to the contours of the sleeper's body for evenly spread support. It relieves pressure on the hips and shoulders while it supports the spine.
The two layers together are encased by a foam rail, South Bay International's 4" x 4" Wedge Edge. This holds the memory foam in so it is more supportive, and also provides edge support to the top.
The 8" support core of the Sleep Science Astoria is twice the height of the memory foam layers together. This Air Channel Base is a slab of polyurethane foam scored on the top by a grid of relief cuts forming airflow channels. These let air circulate in, out and through the interior of the mattress, countering the tendency of the memory foam to warm excessively. When a mattress is too hot, it interferes with quality sleep.
Costco lists the Astoria 12" with an adjustable bed, the Motion Trend by South Bay under the Sleep Science label. It also sells it as mattress only to be used on other foundations, including platform beds (which Costco also sells) and solid top divans and box-framed bases. Memory foam mattresses are not suitable with old style box springs.
