Stearns & Foster Lux Estate Hybrid Collection
Lux Estate Hybrid is one of the two newest collections from
Stearns & Foster. According to news releases and industry articles, this is a fusion of new technology with "legendary craftsmanship."
Lux Estate Hybrid was unveiled at the Winter 2014 Las Vegas World Market the same time as the updated
Estate and
Lux Estate collections. The other new collection is
Signature.
Stearns & Foster calls the
Lux Estate Hybrid "a distinct half foam/half spring mattress," in other words a true hybrid. They feel led to say this since so many so-called hybrid models are really only innerspring mattresses with foam comfort layers. In a genuine hybrid mattress, the upper section is equal in height (or nearly so) with the bottom section. The top half of a
Lux Estate Hybrid mattress focuses on comfort, the bottom half on support. The company describes this as "unlike any other sleep experience."

The
Lux Estate Hybrid Collection shares all the key features of the
Lux Estate Collection. It also enhances some of these features and adds others, as follows:

QUILT - The
cover fabric of
Lux Estate Hybrid mattresses is
PrimaComfort Ultra Stretch which is infused with silk and cashmere.
PrimaComfort is stretchy, allowing it to follow the conformity of underlying foams. The silk and cashmere are there to give it a luxurious texture and feel. Silk is strong and smooth, and cashmere softens with age.
The cover quilt is hand-tufted to the underlying foam layers to stabilize the mattress. Tufting also helps precompress the foams, so what you feel when you first try the mattress should be what you'll have for some time.
COMFORT LAYERS - The
Lux Estate Hybrid comfort core consists of
foam layers, including
PrimaCool Elite Gel Memory Foam which is fused with
OUTLAST. A space-age material,
OUTLAST contains
Phase Change Materials, which change their physical state to keep the temperature within a designated range. The gel in the memory foam is a heat sink to conduct heat away from the sleeping surface. Otherwise, memory foam tends to build up heat and become too warm for comfort.
Around the perimeter of the comfort core is the
PrimaFlow Vent System. This includes vents in the edge support (see below). It also includes solid brass vents in the border fabric. Together, these features allow air to circulate through the mattresses for cooling and freshness.
EDGE SYSTEM - The
StabiLux Edge System encases the coils and comfort layers of
Lux Estate Hybrid mattresses. A perimeter rod enhances support for the top of the mattress, making the entire sleeping surface usable clear out to the edge, and it holds the coil array in place. The encasement is vented for airflow with solid brass vents in the border fabric.
SUPPORT - The
Lux Estate Hybrid innerspring unit is
IntelliCoil® encased coils. These are dual pocket coils, patented by
Sealy. In this 2-in-1 design is a taller outer coil and shorter inner coil formed from the same wire. The taller coil has fewer turns, therefore a softer response. The shorter coil has more turns for a firmer response. The sleeper experiences gentle cushioning with deep support. The dual response makes this array suitable for both heavyweight and lightweight sleepers. And since with pocket coils each coil pair acts independently, the support is conforming without motion transfer.

The recommended foundations for the
Lux Estate Hybrid Collection are the
Stearns & Foster Foundation and the
Reflexion 7 Adjustable Power Base. The
S&F Foundation is available in two heights: 9" Standard and 5" Low Profile. The
Reflexion is made by
Leggett & Platt.
Warranty and Availability
According to the manufacturer, "All Stearns & Foster mattresses come with a 10-year warranty."
Lux Estate Collection models are available through a few retailers. More are expected to carry
Lux Estate Hybrid later on, especially dealers of luxury bedding.
