The Freedom "Collection" is a five-model group of memory foam and latex mattresses in the Contemporary Series by Symbol Mattress. Actually, these are memory foam mattresses. Three of them add gel, and one adds latex. The five models are Freedom 13" Gel and Latex, Freedom 11" Gel and Memory Foam, Freedom 13" Memory Foam, Freedom 11" Memory Foam, and Freedom 8" Gel and Memory Foam. As can be seen in their names, they are 8, 11 and 13 inches high.
The principal featured components of Symbol's Freedom mattresses are memory foam, polyurethane foam, gel, and latex. The first two components are in all Freedom models. Freedom 13" Gel and Latex, Freedom 11" Gel and Memory Foam, and Freedom 8" Gel and Memory Foam have gel-infused foam. And the only one of these mattresses with latex is the first one, making it a hybrid, combining a latex mattress with a memory foam mattress.
The support core of every mattress in the Freedom collection is a layer of polyurethane foam. This high-density material is for underlying support for the sleeper and for the top-side materials. In fact, a sturdy support core extends the life of memory foam, partly by preventing bottoming out. This core is 4" thick in the 8" model, and 6" in the 11" and 13" models.
Memory foam was developed for consumer use from the cushioning material designed for NASA for astronauts' launch seats. It conforms to body contours for even support, and pressure relief. In the Freedom 8" Gel and Memory Foam mattress, the memory foam layer is convoluted. This fosters air flow and motion isolation. In the other models, some memory foam layers are convoluted and some are not. The memory foam thickness varies by model, and the Freedom 13" Memory Foam has two memory foam layers.
Three out of the five Freedom models have gel-infused foam. Gel enhances support properties of foam. It also serves as a heat sink, making the foam cooler, though the extent and length of this effect is under question by researchers.
Latex, the signature feature of the Freedom 13" Gel and Latex mattress is well-known for its resiliency. It is also resistant to bacteria, mold and dust mites, and is hypoallergenic.
All Freedom collection mattresses have high-loft knit quilted covers.
Symbol Mattress Company's Contemporary Series Freedom models are in the low-to-moderate price category. Several retailers, including those in the MEGA Group, carry one or more of these models. Some retailer descriptions of these mattresses vary. This can be accounted for by customization for retailers and retail groups as well as some retailers still having last year's versions on hand.
Mattresses in the Freedom collection, as well as all Symbol Mattress models, carry a 10-year full warranty.
