The Premium Series from Symbol Mattress Company is a group of five series of innerspring mattresses with foam-encased pocket coils. Symbol tags this series as "Upgraded looks and more advanced materials."
The five series within this series are Signature MCS Series, Signature, Alliance, Jasmine and Scarlett. Just looking at the names on the Premium Series page, all except the first one seem to be models. However, when the mattresses in this series are found at retailers, a "model" is actually two or more models with different comfort levels and different types (such as tight top, eurotop and pillowtop). Some of the component series of the 2015 Premium Series were previously members of prior collections. For instance, the Signature Series had been in the Comfortec Collection. As of now, several retailers are still listing the older series and collections.
Three of the series in this collection feature coil-on-coil construction with a layer of encased microcoils above the pocket coil innerspring. The other two series have the primary individually wrapped coils without the much smaller units. Advantages of pocket coils include spinal support and pressure relief, the original goal of their invention by James Marshall, plus motion isolation. Symbol aligns the strips of fabric pockets with the coils from head to toe, further isolating motion on one side of the mattress from the other side.
The innerspring is foam encased and sits on a base pad. The 4" wide foam encasement holds the independent coils in place, which makes them more effective in their support. Foam encasement is also edge support for the sleeping surface.
Other materials used in these pocket coil mattresses are polyurethane foam, memory foam, gel and latex. Polyurethane constitutes the base pad, insulator pads and comfort foams other than memory foam or latex. It may also be the quilting foam in the covers.
The three series that have microcoils also have models with memory foam. Memory foam is used for its conformity to body contours. This is added to the conformity of the microcoils and pocket coils.
Every collection in the Premium Series except Scarlett has models with gel. The gel is infused into foam, either memory foam or polyurethane. Gel enhances foam's support. It is also a heat sink, providing a limited amount of cooling.
A few models in the Signature MCS Series have latex in one or more layers. Latex is more resilient than memory foam. This is preferred by users who do not want to sink into their mattresses. Latex is also microbe and dust mite resistant, anti-fungal and hypoallergenic.
The component series of Symbol's Premium Series are listed in order of the price range from most expensive to least, which is predictable from the lists of their materials.
Foundations provided for Premium Series mattresses are usually upholstered wood-framed box bases. These are often mis-labelled "box springs" when they are really more like platform beds. These mattresses are also compatible with adjustable beds and european wood slats.
One thing Premium Series mattresses have in common with other Symbol Mattress models is the 10-year full warranty. You might not find all Premium Series models at one particular retailer or another, but many retailers carry one or more models in this series.
