Not really named a "collection" are three St. George all-foam mattresses in the 2015 Contemporary Series by Symbol Mattress Company. These are two memory foam mattresses and a latex mattress, the models differing in the use of gel, memory foam and latex.
Of two models listed by Symbol on its site, the St. George Gel Memory Foam has gel-infused memory foam, but the St. George Memory Foam does not have gel. Retailers also list a St. George Latex mattress. In the general description by Symbol Mattress for the St. George models, latex is named as one of the components. Partial listing of a collection on Symbol is also the case with the Unite Collection, where only three of the four models are shown on the company site, though all four are displayed at trade shows, leading to the conclusion that St. George is a 3-model group.
According to retailer descriptions, the memory foam and latex St. George models are 11½" high, the construction being the same with the exception of composition of the ½" thick top comfort layer. It appears that the gel foam model would be the same height. Memory foam has been used for its conformity to body contours. This is to spread support evenly under the entire body, with enough pressure for smaller parts and not too much for larger ones, to relieve pressure on hips and shoulders while supporting the lower spine. Adding gel makes the memory foam more supportive while cooling it.
The latex foam in the St. George Latex provdes resilience, the "bounce" associated with rubber (latex is also called "foam rubber"). Latex is resistant to microbes, mold and dust mites. It is also hypoallergenic, since allergy-triggering proteins are washed out.
The support core of the St. George mattresses is 5½" of 1.8-lb high-density polyurethane foam. This support layer is sandwiched between two 2" layers: very soft convoluted foam above and very firm base foam beneath. The PU provides overall support , and the convoluted foam transitions support to the top comfort layer.
The cover fabric fiber is not named, but on photos it appears to be a high-loft stretch knit. This fabric is quilted to three layers of quilting: fire resistant fibers and two 1" layers of extremely soft foam.
Two kinds of foundations are recommended for St. George mattresses. The first is an upholstered wooden base. This is often mistakenly called a "box spring" though it it more like a platform bed.
The second kind of foundation is adjustable beds. These are not distributed by Symbol Mattress, but they are ones the retailers carry.
St. George all-foam mattresses are available through several retailers. The warranty from Symbol Mattress is for 10 years.
