Tempur-Pedic's Special Solutions Collection has two models which had constituted the TEMPUR-Choice Collection: TEMPUR-Choice Luxe and TEMPUR-Choice Supreme. These models feature the sleeper's choice of comfort levels. In Full size and up, each sleeper can choose the level for that side of the mattress. The choices in the newer model, TEMPUR-Choice Luxe, range from Plush (soft) to Medium-Firm.
The secret to personalizing ones support is in the Tempur-Choice™ Personalized Support System. Not stricly a memory foam mattress, as we have come to expect from Tempurpedic, the TEMPUR-Choice Luxe is a memory foam/air bed hybrid. The Tempur-Choice layer is multiple zoned air support units, one on each side of the bed. Each side is controlled by a remote, which Tempur-Pedic says is "easy-to-use."
What makes Tempur-Pedic tempurpedic is the memory foam, adapted for consumer use by Tempur, the precursor of the company. The stretch knit cover fabric with linen trim is quilted with Tempur-Foam, and under this is a 5" layer of Tempur-ES. What memory foam is known for is its sensitivity to heat and weight, allowing it to conform to body contours, "remembering" the shape. This has the effect of reducing pressure on parts of the body by distributing support evenly. It does, however, have two drawbacks: heat build-up and the "sunk-in" feeling. Memory foam developers have been working on ways to moderate these disadvantages.
TEMPUR-Choice Luxe mattresses have concealed cross-braced handles for managing the mattress. Considering how heavy memory foam mattresses can be, this is a distinct advantage.
Tempurpedic recommends the TEMPUR-Flat Foundation (9" or 5" high), a platform bed, or an adjustable bed (TEMPUR-Ergo Premier Adjustable Base) as the foundation for the TEMPUR-Choice Luxe. The mattress comes with a 10-year non-prorated warranty.
