The touted "cloudlike" feeling of the Tempur-Cloud Elite begins at the top. The
cover features a high-loft super-stretch fabric. The EasyRefresh top panel is fully zippered to be removable and washable. The cover features the SmartClimate System for cooling. Fibers in the cover wick moisture from the surface so evaporation of perspiration cools the top. Then the lining is treated with Phase Change Materials (PCMs) to regulate temperatures. When the temperature rises above the set range, PCMs liquify, absorbing heat. When it is cooler than the range, PCMs release heat and solidify. The cover meets federal fire safety guidelines. It is also treated to be anti-microbial.
The comfort section has two 2.4" TEMPURmemory foam layers. The comfort layer on top is super-soft TEMPUR-ES® material. The support layer is the not-as-soft Tempur® material to undergird the softer top layer so you don't feel like you're falling through. Together with the support core, they produce a firmness level of Extra Soft (7 on a scale of 8) and a conformity level of Moderately Contouring (5/8).
The support core has a 2¾" layer and a 4.9" layer of high density, high resiliency base foam which not only support the entire mattress, but also aid in cooling and ventilation. These foams are structured to allow air to circulate. Having two layers also helps in relieving pressure and dampening motion transfer.
We would never buy a Tempurpedic mattress again due to our experiences with it. They used to make decent beds -- we had several we bought over 10 years ago that were fine. The new, 'improved' models are not durable or consistent.
And, they are grossly overpriced.
Mattress Rating: Mattress Comfort:
It started out being very comfortable. Problem is that four months later the memory foam was sagging and no longer supportive at all.
Mattress Durability:
Durability is abysmal. After only four months the foam began to degenerate to the point where areas we sleep on are very different from areas we do not.
Mattress Support:
At first, it was a perfect balance of pressure relief and support. After about four months, however, it is now like sleeping in a sinkhole.
Mattress Features and Benefits as Advertised:
The warranty only covers permanent, visible indentations of over 3/4 inch. This is probably what we would see if we kept the bed for more than four months, but the changes we experience in degradation of the foam is not there yet. The warranty will not cover us at all, and even if it did, they would only replace it with the same, inferior product.
Quality:
The mattresses would be highly rated if they retained their initial characteristics. Although one can expect a bed to change slightly over time and use, this particular model has exhibited drastic changes to the point of being unusable. We are getting rid of our bed.
