TEMPUR-Flex Collection

T-P logo

The newest series of models by the original manufacturer of memory foam mattresses is the TEMPUR-Flex Collection. The three initial models in this new collection are described as having "a Whole New Feel." The basis of this claim is the use of TEMPUR-Pedic's SmartClimate™ System at the top, a more responsive memory foam (TEMPUR-Response™) in the Response Layer foam support core with TEMPUR-Pedic's new Dynamic Support Layer of wrapped pocket coils.

TEMPUR-Pedic claims that it has "three unique feels" for consumers who are unique. The feel of the TEMPUR-Flex Collection is described as "adaptive and responsive," providing "all of the famous adaptive sleep benefits of TEMPUR with a new dynamically responsive feel."

The SmartClimate™ System is promoted as being "moisture wicking" and "cool-to-the-touch." The outside layer of the cover has fibers for wicking moisture away from the surface. The inner layer is responsible for the "cool-to-the-touch" feel. This cover is also treated to be anti-microbial.

It is the TEMPUR-Responsefoam in the Response Layer which helps make the mattresses adaptive. TEMPUR-Pedic says that this memory foam (TEMPUR-Material) responds faster (more quickly re-conforming) than previous versions.

What is really new to TEMPUR-Pedic in the TEMPUR-Flex Collection is in the Dynamic Support Layer: pocket coils. The company calls these "precision coils." Their tagline is, "Twice the coils for enhanced support." in their description they say, "With twice as many coils, the Dynamic Support Layer provides more complementary, fast-responding support for the TEMPUR material on top." My question is, "Twice as many coils as what?" However many it is, these coils are densely packed. In one industry news article these were called "microcoils." These coils are 6" high, and microcoils are usually less than 4" in height.

Why the coils? TEMPUR-Pedic's reputation is built on their TEMPUR material (memory foam). However, many customers have been wanting a more "traditional" feel in their mattresses. Last year, the company introduced the TEMPUR-Choice Collection with an air support layer, making its two models air-bed and memory foam hybrids with comfort levels that can be adjusted with the push of a button. Now, in 2015, they have a line of innerspring-memory foam hybrid matresses. The Dynamic Support Layer may be below the memory foam, but it yields a degree of springiness which most consumers are familiar with.

The TEMPUR-Flex Collection has three models: the 12½" high TEMPUR-Flex Elite, the 11½" TEMPUR-Flex Supreme, and the 10" high TEMPUR-Flex Prima. The top comfort layer of TEMPUR-ES determines the height and feel of the mattress. TEMPUR-ES is TEMPUR-Pedic's extra soft memory foam, acting as the TEMPUR-Adapt material in this collection.

At the very bottom of each TEMPUR-Flex mattress is the base foam layer. This supports and protects the coils from the bottom. According to mattress descriptions, it also disperses heat for cooling the mattress.

TEMPUR-Flex Collection models can be used with any of four foundations carried by TEMPUR-Pedic. These are TEMPUR-Flat Foundation, TEMPUR-Up™ Foundation, TEMPUR-Ergo™ Plus Adjustable Base, and TEMPUR-Ergo™ Premiere Adjustable Base. They can also be used with other foundations providing the same kind and level of support as these, including platform beds, European wood slats with 3" or less between slats, certain advanced design box springs, and other makes of adjustable beds.

All mattresses in the TEMPUR-Flex Collection are covered by a 10-year non-prorated limited warranty. Though it is not long since their introduction, several TEMPUR-Pedic retailers are carrying these models.

2016 Update

In 2016 TEMPUR-Pedic added the new 12½" TEMPER-Flex Supreme Breeze, which is also in the new TEMPUR-Breeze Collection.
