The Cornell

The Cornell is an innerspring mattress produced and sold by Parklane Mattresses of Tualatin, Oregon. It is listed as an Offset Coil Mattress, one of 8 Parklane models currently in that category. The others are The Alder, The Irving, The Lovejoy, The Morrison, The Quimby, The Stanton, and The Tillamook.

The support core of The Cornell consists of 600 14-gauge offset coils. These coils have less motion transfer than Bonnell coils, but still have more than Marshall (pocket) coils. Offset coils provide consistent support, which is why they have usually appeared in higher level mattresses. They also have more conformity to the sleeper's body contours for pressure relief than Bonnells or continuous coils. Parklane says that offset coils are the best choice for full support and spinal alignment. However, if you want more contouring and motion isolation, consider Parklane's Marshall Coil Mattresses.

Beneath the innerspring unit of The Cornell is a 2" thick base pad of plant-based foam. This protects the bottom of the coils while also serving as a shock absorber, such as when someone falls into bed too hard or their child decides to use the bed for a trampoline."

The Cornell has three comfort layers, all Talatech® latex. Talatech is Parklane Mattresses' blend of Talalay processed 85% natural and 15% synthetic latex, adding extra durability to the latex's other attributes: antimicrobial, antifungal, hypoallergenic, breathable. latex is also temperature neutral, meaning it does not get too warm or too cool.

Under the comfort layers is a layer of cotton felt to protect the latex and the coils from each other.

The innerspring unit is foam encased. This both protects the coils from the side and provides edge support for the sleeping surface. This prevents roll-offs while making the surface 100% usable.

The Cornell has a cover of polyester knit. It is stretchable for comfort, and is breathable for coolness.

The Cornell can be seen, tested and purchased at any of Parklane Mattresses' stores in the Portland, Oregon area, including Vancouver, Washington.

Parklane constructs a wood slat foundation for The Cornell. The wood comes from North American forests. The foundation has 14 slats (10 on Twin size). These are heavily reinforced. It is available in two heights: 9" Standard and 4" Low Profile. The Cornell is also compatible with adjustable beds, some of which Parklane sells (made by Customatic). These models are the Freestyle and the Sectional 6.
