The Explorer is an 8" high innerspring mattress by the Parklane RV Mattresses division of Parklane Mattresses (formerly Paramount Bedding) near Portland, Oregon. The other mattress in this set is The Traveler, a 7" high model.
Like The Traveler, The Explorer is supported by Bonnell coils. This mattress has a 390 coil count in Queen size, which Parklane indicates is higher than most other coil spring RV mattresses. The innerspring is flexible enough that Parklane RV Mattresses rolls it up (using a patented process) and boxes it for shipping.
Unlike The Traveler, The Explorer is a single-sided mattress. This allows it to be plusher, with a thicker Eurotop and thicker quilting (together ¼ of the mattress height), meaning more SuperSoft foam under the sleeper for more cushioning. Parklane says, "You won't believe this is an RV mattress. It feels like an expensive home mattress and will give a great night's sleep."
The cover of The Explorer is a damask fabric of polyester. It is quilted to fire-retardant rayon and SuperSoft foam. The FR rayon meets federal flammability guidelines without using chemicals.
Except for residential beds, a foundation usually does not have to be purchased. These RV mattresses are designed to be used on the platform-style bases of most vehicle beds.
