The Glisan The Glisan is a specialty sleep (non-spring) mattress made by Parklane Mattresses, a mattress manufacturer and retailer in the greater Portland, Oregon, area. Parklane says, "The Glisan contains our most luxurious and quality products." The components of this model include plant-based support foam, premium memory foam, gel foam, and quality fabric.

The Glisan, formerly called The Glacier, has a 3˝" foam base and a 3˝" foam support core. These are polyurethane made with soy-oil, a renewable resource which reduces the use of petroleum. The role of the support core is to provide sure support for the sleepers. And the even firmer base undergirds the whole mattress and protects the support core. The support layer and its interface with the base have been engineered to maximize air circulation for cooling and freshness.

The 3" comfort layer in The Glisan is AERUS® Memory Foam, a premium material made in the United States by FXI (formerly Foamex Innovation). The original memory foam absorbed heat, and it built up until the mattress became too warm for sleeping comfort. Manufacturers began to find ways to counter this heat build-up. AERUS has an enhanced cell struture allowing air flow through the layer. FXI calls this a "green memory foam" because it makes use of plant-derived ingredients.

The memory foam conforms to the users' body contours, which relieves pressure points. It also dampens or eliminates motion transfer, so one sleeper's movements do not disturb the other. This memory foam has a density of 5 lbs.

Atop the AERUS® Memory Foam in The Glisan is a 2" layer of gel memory foam. This gel-infused foam is made in Kansas in a Future Foam plant, another USA firm. The gel in this memory foam is there to cool the sleeping surface. The gel which is infused into the memory foam conducts heat away from the sleeping surface to where it can dissipate. The gel also enhances the supportive properties of the memory foam.

The recommended "box spring" for The Glisan is a European style wood slat foundation. In general, regular box springs are not suitable for foam mattresses, because they need consistent support all across the bottom the slats in Parklane Mattresses' are close enough together to provide this level of support. These are available in two heights: 9" Standard or 4" low profile. However, The Glisan is compatible with adjustable beds.

The Glisan is available in Parklane's stores in the Portland area. It carries a 25-year Platinum warranty.
