The Halsey
Parklane Mattresses (formerly
Paramount Bedding) of the Portland, Oregon suburb of Beaverton lists mattresses by Type, Sleeping Position and Comfort Level.
The Halsey is listed under
Green (Eco-Friendly) Mattresses and has a comfort level of Medium. The page for this
Parklane model gives the sleeping position as Stomach, but under the "By Position" tab it is listed as suitable for all positions.
The Halsey by
Parklane Mattresses is a "specialty sleep" mattress, which means it does not have springs. Instead, support is provided by a foam support core. This support core is 4 inches of highly resilient polyurethane made from plant-based oils (such as soy). According to
Parklane's answer to a question, only a portion of the petroleum oil is replaced by soy oil. It is more sustainable, but still has some out-gassing. (All "plant-based" polyurethane in mattresses, regardless of the manufacturer, is still made mostly of petroleum oils for durability.)
The support core of
Parklane Mattresses'
The Halsey rests on a 2" base layer made of high-density foam, also plant-based. This is very dense, very firm foam which undergirds the mattress itself to protect the support core and keep the mattress from sagging. Even with this base, a foam mattress still needs full support from the foundation.
The comfort section of
The Halsey by
Parklane Mattresses is three layers of
Talatech® (Talalay) latex. This is 100% natural latex, meaning it is made soley from the sap of the Brasilian rubber tree (which is cultivated in Southeast Asia as well as South America). Among the listed benefits of latex, it is hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. Talalay latex is also breathable due to the way it is processed with an open-cell structure. Latex's conformability rivals that of memory foam, but it is more resilient, rebounding almost instantly. Also, it is more durable than latex, more resistant to leaving body indentations.
The cover of this 10" mattress is made of bamboo-infused fabric. The bamboo in the fabric makes it anti-bacterial and resistant to dust mites and other allergens. It is also breathable and wicks away moisture, helping to keep the sleeping surface cool.
Parklane Mattresses makes 14-slat wood foundations made from material harvested from North american forests, a sustainable resource (which is also abundant in Oregon). These wood-slat foundations are availble for
The Halsey in a standard (9") or low profile (4") height. This model may also be used with one of the adjustable bases sold by
Parklane, the
Freestyle or the
Sectional 6.
The Halsey carries
Parklane's 25-year
Gold warranty. This is 25/15 coverage: No charge for repair or replacement for the first 15 years, but some charges applied during the remaining years (16
th-25
th).
The Halsey is available at any of the
Parklane Mattresses outlets in the Greater Portland area.
