The name of this mattress is suggestive, with an implicit promise that it would lull you into restful, refreshing, restorative sleep. Of course, it is up to the users to say whether this new mattress lives up to its name. Customer response up to the time of this writing has been positive.
The construction of the Lull Mattress is equivalent to that of the best-reviewed memory foam mattresses from the past 20 years. It should also be a more healthful product, with reduced outgassing of petroleum byproducts and non-chemical fire protection.
Another bonus of the Lull Mattress, in contrast to many low-priced foam mattresses, is that it is made entirely in America. The foams are formulated in California. Thread and fabrics are made in North Carolina. Cutting and sewing is done in Illinois and North Carolina.
The Lull is a 10" all-foam mattress with three layers, a support core, a transition layer, and a comfort layer. All of these foams are certified by CertiPUR-US® as being free of certain harmful substances, such as toxic chemicals, ozone depleters, and heavy metals.
The support core is 7" high. It consists of very firm polyurethane foam. The role of this layer, more than half the mattress height, is to undergird the more conforming comfort layers. Without it, the memory foam would sag, bottom out. The core is firm enough for overall support, but it has enough give to take some of the shock of sleepers getting into bed.
The transition and comfort layers of the Lull are each 1½" thick. The transition layer is a blended foam. It is less firm than the support core, and firmer than the comfort layer. Graded firmness is a standard feature most quality mattresses. Transitioning support this way from the bottom to the top extends the lifetime of the foams.
The top layer of the Lull Mattress is memory foam infused with gel. the foam is structured to let more air flow through. This is to keep the mattress cool, canceling the heat issue while enjoying the benefits of memory foam.
Memory foam is used because its conformity to the body contours of a sleeper distributes support evenly. This lessens pressure on larger parts, like the hips and shoulders. At the same time, it supports smaller areas, such as the lumbar. It also cancels motion transfer, reducing partner disturbance. Infused gel makes the support more fluid (without the mess and weight of a waterbed).
The cover of the Lull Mattress is a blend of polyester and rayon. This is a very durable fabric. The same two materials are used in the fire barrier, but mostly rayon with some polyester. The rayon here is infused with silica for a material which will not sustain flames. This meets federal flammability in bedding standards without using toxic substances.
The recommended foundation for a Lull mattress is, well, a foundation. Or the floor. Whatever it is, it should provide consistent support. It can be a platform bed, wood slats, an adjustable bed, even a box spring. Lull is not tying the customer to an expensive foundation of the company's choosing.
The price of a Lull Mattress is the price in full. Shipping is free. The sleep trial is for 100 nights, and the warranty for 10 years. It is delivered by FedEx. The mattress is compressed, sealed, and folded into a cardboard box. A panel on the box has instructions for opening the mattress and letting it expand.
The Lull Mattress is available in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King.
