The Macadam

The Macadam is a Talalay latex mattress made by Beaverton, OR firm Parklane Mattresses. This 10" high mattress is the middle-priced model of Parklane's Talalay latex series. Like the other latex models, the tagline is, "All natural. All premium. All comfort."

According to Parklane Mattresses indexing, The Macadam Type is Latex, it has a comfort level of Firm, is best for a Combo sleeping position, and it is compatible with an adjustable bed.

All-natural latex, which is made from 100% rubber tree sap, is a sustainable resource and is biodegradable. It has been used in mattresses for more than a century, but has become popular only within the last ten years. Latex foam is very resilient. It is also durable, lasting longer on the average than visco-elastic memory foam, because it is more resistant to permanent body impressions.

Other properties of latex are:
* It is hypo-allergenic;
* It is anti-fungal;
* It is anti-microbial;
* It resists dust mites;
* It is breathable;
* It is conformable.

Because it is both resilient and conformable, Talalay latex provides relief from pressure points. Its breathability makes it cooler than memory foam. And although it is biodegradable, it doesn't break down or age readily under normal usage.

The Macadam by Parklane Mattresses has three layers. The 6" primary support core is made of support grade high density Talalay latex. This is to provide deep support for the users, which is needed for spinal health. Atop the support core are two layers of 32 ILD latex foam, again 100% Talalay. These soften and cushion the firmness of the support core, but only to Firm. By contrast, the other two Talalay latex models are both Medium.

The cover of The Macadam Talalay latex mattress by Parklane Mattresses is 100% silk fabric quilted with soft quilting foams. This cover is breathable, to allow a sleeper to experience the benefits of the latex beneath it. This cover also includes rayon fibers, a non-chemical means of meeting federal flammability standards.

Parklane Mattresses makes a wood slat foundation from North American forest wood for The Macadam. This foundation, with 14 slats, is engineered for specialty sleep (non-spring) mattresses. The Macadam Talalay latex mattress is also compatible with adjustable bases, and Parklane sells two, the Freestyle and the Sectional 6.

The Macadam carries a 25-year Platinum Parklane Mattresses warranty. This means that this model is fully covered for the full 25 years, with no charges for repair or replacement.

As to the name, one of the major streets in Portland, OR is Macadam Road, named for a 19th Century method for paving a highway with rock.
