The Marshall

The Marshall is a medium comfort level, offset coil mattress made by Parklane Mattress, a bedding manufacturer in the Greater Portland (Oregon) area.

According to Parklane Mattress, The Marshall is "Orthopedically-designed for full-body support." This is based on the offset coil innersprings. Each row of offset coils, otherwise known as continous coils, is made of a single wire. They are called "offset" because each coil is connected to the coil on one side at the top and the one on the other side at the bottom, which keeps all the coils in place sharing support, but allows each pair of coils to respond independently from the next pair.

The coils conform the support to the weight and shape of a sleeper's body more faithfully than traditional Bonnell coils. This provides even support for the whole body. It relieves pressure points and promotes correct spinal alignment, thus the "orthopedic" claim. Beside this, offset coils dampen motion transfer, eliminating partner disturbance.

The offset coil innerspring is strengthened by Parklane's Reinforced Perimeter Edge Support, which also supports the sleeping surface, making it entirely usable.

A combination of foam and fiber in The Marshall constitutes the comfort layers above the innerspring unit. Beginning with high density support [firm] foam, Parklane adds layers of cotton felt, HD comfort [soft] foam, and Talalay latex. Cotton is naturally breathable, cushioning and insulative. The support foam keeps the sleeper from feeling individual coils. Soft foam moderates the firmness. And the latex, 100% natural--made from rubber tree sap, is resilient, antimicrobial, antifungal, hypoallergenic, and dust mite resistant.

The stretch-knit cover fabric is heavyweight, making it durable. Judging from the photos, this cover is either quilted or tufted.

The Parklane Mattress makes wood-slat foundations for The Marshall. These are constructed of wood from sustainable forests in North America. According to Parklane, "All wood slat foundations [are] heavily reinforced with 14 slats (10 on twins)—the strongest units in the industry." They are available in either of two heights: standard (9") or low profile (4"). With an 11" height for The Marshall, many consumers will opt for the low profile foundation.

The Marshall carries a 10-year Bronze level warranty. The first 2 years are fully covered (no charges for repair or replacement), but charges may apply during the remaining years.

The Marshall is found in Parklane Mattress showrooms in the greater Portland area.
